A series of half-started words and an almost-gesture or two were as far as James got in trying to answer the question before he scrapped it entirely. And, of course, as soon as he stopped trying to think of what to say, it fell out of his mouth.
"Remus had a rough night. And a hard landing." And fuck it that wasn't the truth. His wasn't sharp, it was just a bit heavy. Because the whole thing was a bit heavy.
Still. It sure as hell beat the stuff James knew back on Planet Home. This sort of weirdness, he could understand a lot better than Sirius and Remus sizing each other up for traitor suits. Hands down, James would pick this every single time.
"I kind of thought I'd have seen you there this morning," he mentioned. And really, he had. It wasn't like Sirius didn't know how to find Moony, the morning after. Right? Yeah, Sirius could have found him-- if Sirius could have found them, if Sirius had been looking for them.
