It was like swimming through a thick lagoon, that's how the rise from her deep sleep could be described. A deep, thick lagoon, which threatened to drag her back under again and again. Helena had been fighting against it now for what felt like years. And every time she thought she was getting somewhere, she was dragged back down again. It pushed at her mind, leaving her feeling murky and lost. All consciousness would be lost and darkness would surround her and then nothing. And then, it would start over again.
This time though, there was something different. A hazy film of light crept in through the darkness, beckoning her, giving her something to kick and swim towards. The closer she got though, the more she wished she could turn back. At first, it was just a dull throb in the back of her head. The farther towards the light, and what she could discern as he conscious self, the more the throb intensified into pain.
Bright, searing, white pain which spread from her head through her face and down her body. She felt heavy and tired and like her stomach had been torn into two and sewn back together with a needle and thread. She couldn't even put words to how her head felt.
Finally, Helena broke through the surface and took in a deep searing breath of her first gulp of air in years! Her eyes were slower to cooperate, but when they finally did open, she noticed the light she had been following was just a small flickering candle off to the side. The rest of the room was drenched in darkness and shadows.
Bellatrix could be in those shadows, like she had been in the jungle. It was dark like the jungle had been for the most part. Helena shook her head to rid herself of these thoughts and groaned as she did so. Moving seemed to be one of her worst ideas ever. She would take note of that and try to avoid moving again. Though, from the movement, a light haze settled over her vision, making everything blurry and wrong. Everything in the room was just a bunch of fuzzy blobs marring her imperfect vision.
And that was scary. Was she going blind? Had the hit to the back of her head caused some serious damage? How long had she been out?
