Remus panicked at the way James said his name. That was it. This was it. His friendship with James was over, and then James would tell Sirius and then Sirius would be gone and who would Remus have then? He would be alone again. Like back home. Only, the shocked, offended expression, although very well executed... didn't match the words, and the relief that flooded Remus made him feel lightheaded. If he'd had something nearby to fling at James, he would've done it.
"Stuff it, Potter," he settled on saying, rolling his eyes in relief and annoyance. Trust James to make everything light and easy, even while Remus was beating himself up about it all. He knew it was James's way of saying it was alright, but still. Scaring him like that hadn't been necessary.
It was good, knowing that James, at least, seemed alright with the idea. And yet, the disappointment was palpable; why couldn't it help Remus feel any better about the situation?
"Yes, Sirius." He shook his head, dejected. "I don't know what to do, James. I've tried stopping, I really have. I'm going on stupid dates Sirius is setting me up on... It's pointless. They're not him. I don't know what to do."
