Eileen exited the library with a slim book and a general, weary air of defeat. After an exhausting search for some books on floral arrangement and tropical flower identification, she’d found next to nothing. The only semi-useful item had been a book on “flower language and meanings”, but it wasn’t illustrated, and it wouldn’t do her any good to know that globe amaranths meant “immortal love” if she didn’t know what the damn things looked like.
As for the arrangements, well, it looked as if she was just going to have to wing it. Making flowers look pretty couldn’t be too hard, could it? They were pretty on their own. Eileen would have to pluck flowers she didn’t know the names of and arrange them to the best of her ability.
She flipped open the book as she walked, her steps slowing as her concentration focused on the page. She’d had azaleas at her wedding: “fragile passion”, according to this. Eileen was wondering how exactly that suited her and whether or not the flower language thing actually meant anything or not when she heard a set of footsteps not far behind her, paused, and looked back.
