Regulus hated that he so clearly made Severus uncomfortable. It was getting under his skin. He just desperately wanted to make things all right. He wanted to show Severus that things could be all right between them again. This didn't have to be weird. It didn't have to be like this between them anymore. Things could be okay. He needed them to be okay.
"I'm sorry," Regulus said, swallowing unevenly. He had never felt this kind of guilt before. He had never felt like this at all before. He was talking a little too fast, because he didn't know how to handle this. He did know that he had probably apologized too many times already. The words were beginning to lose meaning. "I just - I didn't realize. I thought - We had already done that before."
His got a little softer as he finished speaking, not certain if that was information that he should be revealing or not. He didn't know if Severus really wanted to hear that or not, but surely it made his actions more comprehensible if Severus aware of the fact that they had shared a few kisses before?
He also hadn't been aware of the fact that he had been walking steadily closer to Severus as he was speaking. Suddenly, he was just in front of Severus and could see the way that the rain had soaked him through, could see the way that the rain was making his clothes stick to his frame.
"I can make this okay," Regulus said, his voice barely above a whisper and he didn't know if he was talking to himself or if he was talking to Severus. By the time he had finished the last word, he had leaned in and connected their mouths again, one of his hands sliding up the side of Severus' neck, tangling with the wet hair there. If he had been thinking at all, he would have known that this was exactly the wrong way to handle this situation. But he wasn't thinking about much at all. He was just acting, as if he was being automatically propelled.
