You okay honey?
Who: Fred and Ginny
What: Talking
Where: Harry's bungalow (Because Ginny doesn't stay at hers)
When: Friday afternoon
Fred felt like he hadn't seen Ginny in a while. Sure he'd seen her at work, one of the benefits of working in the grocery, but beyond that it had beeen a while since they had spent quality family time. It was that thought that had him going to her bungalow and pounding on the door. He had some questions he wanted to ask her anyway.
Once she opened the door, he grinned at her, offering a quick "Hey Gin" as he pushed past her and sat on her couch.
--
Standing at the door, Ginny rolled her eyes as Fred marched inside. "Please, come in. Nice to see you Fred." Brothers. Such a pain. She shook her head and shut the door, moving to join him on the sofa. "If you've come by to convince me to be a test subject I should warn you that I'm older, wiser and you'd have to pay me to agree to it nowadays." She grinned and kissed his cheek noisly.
--
Fred rolled his eyes. "I would need to have something for you to be a test subject on first, now wouldn't I?" He made a show of wiping off imaginary saliva from her kiss, but hugged her to make up for it. "I just wanted to see what you were up to. We haven't spent much time together."
--
There wasn't much to do on the island. Ginny spent nearly all of her time with Harry and working. Really, what else was she supposed to do? Luna was here now and she was grateful for that, but there wasn't Quidditch to occupy her time. She'd gone running a lot, mostly to clear her head and try to understand what was going on, but still.
"Well, we can't all be off flirting with dead people," she teased.
--
Fred let out a loud groan. It wasn't bad enough with Albus teasing him, Ginny had to start in as well? Like mother, like son, apparently. "Thank you for that, really." He rolled his eyes at her, getting comfortable on the couch before starting, "Alright, there's a real reason I'm here. I...opened a piece of my luggage. And I just...are you ok? With..." Voldemort. Being here. He couldn't bring himself to say it. Not because he was scared of the thing that was supposed to be living with his sister, but because he didn't really want to have this conversation, but he knew he had to.
--
"Uh. I think so?" Was there some reason she wasn't supposed to be okay? Ginny wasn't exactly happy, but there wasn't anything wrong with her either. "You might need to be a bit more specific. There's a lot of reasons I might be upset. Narrow it down a bit and try again." She wasn't okay with her children. She wasn't okay without her magic. Okay, come to think of it she wasn't okay with anything on this island, but she wasn't not okay. Odd.
--
Fred knew she had a lot going on, so he didn't reply with a sarcastic comment. "Alright, uh, this is gonna seem late, but...when you were with Voldemort, in the chamber...I dunno." He ran a hand through his hair. He wasn't even sure what exactly he was getting at. He just knew he had to talk to her.
--
Ginny's smile faded into a very deep frown. Why was he bringing that up? "What? What do you want to know?" Ginny appreciated that no one in her family ever really forced her to talk about that night. It wasn't something she'd ever get over and the nightmares lingered for years. She still had them.
"What's your question?"
--
He honestly didn't know what his question was. He just wanted her to be alright, and he felt bad that he'd never really asked her that. "Look, when I first opened it, I wanted revenge for you. I was gonna go and do something...something to him. Percy convinced me I shouldn't. The only thing I could think was to come see you." He shrugged at her, in short, he had no idea what the hell he was doing. "Are you...You haven't gotten over it yet, have you?" he could tell just looking at that frown.
--
"It's not really something you get over," she said honestly. "He was inside of my soul. Or something. My mind. I still don't understand how he did it, but it was the single worst thing I've ever felt. And what I did to all of those people? I don't think I can ever really be over it." Ginny pulled her knees up to her chest and rested her chin on top of them. It had been a long time since that year and nearly every day she was okay.
Then he came back. He lived in the home she was supposed to be living in. "He can't die. I can't wait for him to die. He'll always be back. I just have to keep going and not let him control my life."
--
Fred nodded and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. He couldn't imagine how she had felt and he realized for the second time just how close he had come to losing his sister. "Im sorry Gin. I'm so sorry. Is there anything I can do?" He knew there probably wasn't, but he felt like he had to do something. He had to make her life better for not personally killing Tom Riddle all those years ago.
--
"Just make me laugh. Honestly, that's what got me through it in the first place. You and George playing jokes and carrying on like nothing had changed meant the world to me then. It will now too." Ginny leaned against Fred, so grateful for an older brother who loved her so much. Knowing that her past was something that affected Fred this much just proved how much he really did love her. "We can go play a prank on Bill."
--
"That we can do. What do you wanna do to him?" Making Ginny laugh was something Fred was very capable of, and he was glad that it had helped her when she was first dealing with this as well. He squeezed her shoulder gently and rested his head on hers. "You know how heavy he sleeps? We can totally mess with him then, do a muggle trick to make him pee himself or something."
