It was a bad idea to depend on someone he didn't know, and Draco assured himself that he wasn't depending at all. That he was simply waiting here, at his shop, more than two hours before what he'd determined were his 'hours of operation' didn't mean that he depended on the woman. Far from it, even!
He had a small pocket mirror with him, and he adjusted the strand of hair that was threatening to go rogue. Ever since he'd opened that piece of luggage, Draco had cared about his appearance more than he had. He had started to care about what people thought of him far more than was customary, even for a Malfoy. It bordered on obsession, and if what happened to Pucey ever happened to him, Draco suspected he would die. He would simply die.
But this wasn't about impressing the Scamander lady. He didn't remember her from Hogwarts. Apparently, he had made enough of an impression to be known by the older years from others Houses, but they had barely been worth his attention and he had no recollection of the woman. Whoever she was though, she could help him build a decent house and that was worth a lot. His reputation on the island depended on the quality of his work. It wouldn't do to look like a lousy carpenter, would it? No. Everyone expected him to fail, but he would strive above that. He would surprise them all.
He looked at his watch again, his foot tapping an impatient rhythm against the ground as he continued to wait. She had no obligation to him, didn't have to come by even though she'd said she would. She was volunteering her time to help him, he reminded himself. But really, didn't she have any pride? Didn't her word matter to her? Didn't it matter to her what he would think of her when she didn't show up?
