Where: Street
When: Backdated; Middle of the day on July 20.
Status/Rating: Incomplete, probably high?
Street sweeping, Regulus had long since decided, was one of the oddest jobs in the world. It wasn't that it was particularly hard. It was just an incredibly boring and repetitive. And it seemed like an incredible waste of what could have been a fine broom. Regulus had spent his first few days puzzling over why the brooms didn't fly and why in the world someone would have thought of using a broom like this, but those thoughts had lost their novelty. No, the problem was that sweeping left far too much time for thinking. At the moment, Regulus didn't want to think about anything at all
To be fair, he had known at the time that he was being stupid. He knew that doing anything with James was a bad idea. But he had let them happen anyway, because he always let James have whatever he wanted. No matter how hard he tried to stop James, it never seemed to count for anything - and when he thought about that, he couldn't help but be angry with James. Because it was James' fault. Regulus had just been trying to help him and his stupid, drunken arse couldn't control itself for the fifteen minutes that it would have taken Regulus to get him across the village and back into his bungalow. But, no, James had cajoled and pressed and things had happened.
And then James had left him alone on the beach during the night.
It hurt. It hurt more than Regulus would ever be willing to admit even if he had been the one reminding James about Lily. He knew that James had sobered up and realized what a bad mistake he had made and left him before he had woken up. And Regulus knew that he couldn't have expected any differently - but it was still so unfair.
