Gellert quickly backstepped, very much wanting to put a bit of space between him and the young lady who had just pushed through the door. Variant though the temporal origins of many in this place seemed to be, in Gellert's own time women seemed quite keen to misconstrue insufficient physical distance from strange men as some sort of attempt at robbery or assault, even when the closeness was clearly accidental. Perhaps people from the future (his future, anyway) were a bit more relaxed about that sort of thing, but it was not worth taking chances. Especially not when so much was already out of place.
"Beg pardon," Gellert said, tilting his head forward in what he hoped was a sufficient gesture of respect in this woman's time. "I did not hear you outside." He lifted his gaze again to meet hers, letting a small smile touch at the corners of his lips. "I suppose we are to be roommates."
