Settling in on Remus's other side, James took up the seemingly joint task of studying the sky. Not that the sky often provided particularly helpful answers. No, the sky was only really skilled at stirring up trouble. Moons and fate-heavy stars and plotting planets and a whole cosmos of celestial bodies just a little too keen on screwing around with mere mortals. Hardly fair at all, really.
Actually, what was completely unfair was that they had been cut off from their magic. Part of James wanted to hope that maybe, without magic, Remus wouldn't transform at all. That maybe this particular mushroom cloud had silver lining. But he doubted that'd hold much water. Plenty of muggles were bitten and turned, and magic around them certainly seemed to work well enough. Besides, best not to voice the really obscure hopes.
"Totally against the rules," James agreed. There was a slight pause, a faint hesitation before he mentioned, "I can shift. At all. Gave it a shot- very unpleasant. So. That complicates things a bit."
