Bella rolled her eyes, glad he was on the other side. She was supposed to be nice, after all. Bella turned over onto her stomach, her head resting on her forearms, looking at the tree trunk, as though that was what had spoken rather than a man on the other side. "Of course you can. I was merely making sure it was a human and not some rapid animal. Forgive me."
Bella made a face at the trunk, hating that she could sound so sincere in asking forgiveness. The only person she'd ever ask for forgiveness from was Tom, and she knew that it was rare that he forgave anyone. This person didn't deserve her asking it from them.
