Rose ran.
She didn't know where she was, but she supposed this was supposed to be some trick they played on first years at her university. She'd heard the horror stories of course, but those had seemed to be concentrated on the first few weeks of classes. This was not the time for this sort of thing for many reasons, not the least of which the examination she had to pass this afternoon. Rose could not afford to waste time wrestling with pieces of luggage that appeared to have a mind of their own.
She'd tried charming them still, of course. It was one of the first things she'd tried after looking for the motor on the wheels and asking the useless ladies at the station to make them stop please. She had waited, of course, for the ladies to look away before pulling her wand on them, but the sparks had made her scream and hide the wand behind her guiltily, wide eyes trained on the workers who paid her no mind whatsoever. Something was wrong with her wand. Someone had played around with her wand. She had hurriedly stowed the useless piece of wood up her sleeve before shoving one of the pieces of luggage out of the way and walking past them, only to be followed, once again, by the relentless bags. How were they doing that? And why wasn't her wand working?
She'd sped up, intent on putting some distance between them and her, but to no avail. When she accelerated, so did they, when she slowed down, they encircled her, guiding her incessantly in one direction.
That was when she'd started to run.
She was still running.
Spotting a tree with a low branch out of the corner of her eye, Rose abruptly changed her course towards it, climbing up onto the branch when she reached it.
"HELP!" she called, holding on to the trunk tightly, tentatively working on climbing to the next branch. "I NEED HELP!" This was ridiculous, she was climbing a tree to escape demented luggage. It had to be a trick and whoever had done it was going to get an earful. "SOMEONE, I NEED HELP!"
