"That's why I'm late," she said cheerfully. "If I go slow then I never get anywhere on time. Such is my life." Tonks had accepted her clumsiness ages ago. There really wasn't anything she could do about it, so she embraced it. It was quirky!
Tonks didn't even think to offer to pay. Not because she expected Remus to buy anything for her, but because she knew how proud he had been whenever he could support her or buy her something. They'd made his salary from Hogwarts last quite awhile and while they didn't have white peacocks strutting around their lawn, they were warm and happy.
But then he called her a lady and Tonks wrinkled her nose up. "Thanks," she said rather than point out how much she hated being reminded that she was a girl. Being a girl didn't mean she deserved any extra privileges! Without looking at the menu, Tonks picked out what she wanted. A really big salad with extra cucumbers and tomatoes. Mmmm mmm good.
"So. What did the doctor say to the witch in hospital?"
