Ted wished he could offer to let Teddy sit, but he didn't think asking his grandson to sit in grass would be a great first grandfatherly act. Instead, he just kept standing there with Teddy inches from him. It felt awkward and not at all what Ted wanted to feel. He wanted to know the man in front of him. He wanted to tell him stories, not have Teddy forced to talk about a life Ted knew nothing about. But what choice did he have? "I assure you I'm not nearly the slob I'm sure she made me out to be!" It felt better to joke than let it get too somber. He didn't want to scare Teddy off. Then, something dawned on Ted. "May I ask you something, son?"
