Pushing the door open, and peeking through the crack, Sirius spotted a head of blond hair and another head full of tawny brown hair streaked with some silver. Definitely Remus. His satisfaction was short-lived because something made a ding sound from behind him, giving him a startle so pathetic it made him scowl at himself for jumping like a Sally with pigtails.
Mission accomplished, he wheeled around, starting for the door. He was halfway there when what started off as a small absent glance over to the kitchen made him halt, rooted to the creaky floorboards. The absent glance turned into a full-on, gawking stare.
"Regulus?" It had to be him. He remembered what his brother looked like, didn't he? And he looked like that. Sirius's heart swelled up, and before he could stop to think about things like repercussions and past spats, he surged at his brother. Sirius just couldn't stop himself, not even if he'd wanted to, from wrapping his arms around his little brother and giving him a hug that was probably more suffocating than anything else. All Sirius could think about was that his brother was here, alive, and it all made sense now. The brother who had gone missing and was never heard from again WASN'T dead. He'd been here all along!
"What the balls are you doing here? Is this where you've been hiding?"
