If nothing else, the people here were most intriguing. It was inspiring to see so much emotion riding so close to the surface. Whatever he was to become, it was obviously great. Awe-inspiring. It had been palpable in the first moment that he had met the girl in the bungalow. While the way that she had addressed him had been entirely disrespectful, he hadn't missed the edge of horror that sliced through her every word. It had been the same when the man had posted, saying that Tom Riddle was here. Everyone had known of him. He stretched into time. He had accomplished many things. He could only hope that he would be able to accomplish as many here; after all, if he had that many enemies, he had had to have that many followers, correct?
Thus far, though, no one had sought him out. No on had rallied in his defense. And he could only wonder if it was because they hadn't yet been brought here or if it was because they were fearful, aware of being outnumbered. He could only hope that he hadn't gathered such weaknesses around him. There had to be some that would speak out for him, even if odds were greatly stacked against them.
In any case, he was enjoying the near edge of violence and chaos that surrounded him. He had always enjoyed provoking such a reaction in people; it was perhaps why, while he found it detestable that he had to work, his job was still interesting. He saw a great many people - and he saw them at their weakest, when alcohol had stripped away their reservations and inhibitions. He saw them in their truest state and then knew how to take them apart.
In any case, he was spending most of the day simply observing who was around him. It was good to know; it was important to figure out how many people were here and how many were clear enemies. His gaze had been following a young woman walking nearby; he was somewhat surprised when her gaze was drawn toward him. But at the same time, he felt some deep connection. It was a calling of self. It was too strong to be ignored.
"Can I help you, miss?" he asked, falling back on years of cultivating charm in order to successfully con people.
