As far as James saw it, it was a matter of 'when' and not 'if' for Sirius and Remus. Blokes didn't get this worked up over each other to just... not.
"Yeah. Well. Meaningless sex is usually just that," Jame conceded, a shoulder shrugging. James just happened to find monumental meaning in even the most mundane things.
Not that girls were mundane, of course. But while Lily had been beyond his reach, James had acquainted himself with the idea that sex could be plenty of other things aside from the physical expression of the true and perfect love that exists between soulmates. Not that James hadn't been totally convinced he was absolutely head over heels in love with his first. But Bianca, that gorgeous Hufflepuff, had been a little older and much more clever, and had sorted out that rather quickly.
Thinking about it didn't exactly help. But at least the pain in his chest was starting to dull into an ache, instead of that sharp, stabbing thing it had been earlier.
He grabbed the chocolate and the rum and followed after Remus. Draping himself over the first available chair, James sighed a bit, and set the bottle down on the floor. He was peeling back a bit more of the wrapper from the chocolate as he practically muttered, "All I'm saying is enjoy it," meaning the whole thing with Sirius, "as much as you can, as hard as you can-- and for as long as you can."
Because there really wasn't any telling when something was going to come along and ruin everything. James washed the next piece of chocolate down with another splash of rum.
