Opposites could attract and they'd been here long enough that Nina, while she missed Matthias, found she missed Jes and Kaz more. And Dream piqued her curiosity.
Nina liked Dream. Sure, he was quiet and his whole demeanour spoke of having existed for...well...ever, but the Grisha felt a sort of comfort around him she couldn't explain. Helped by their son, sure, but even without him, Nina felt like she could just be herself.
"I could ask Kol, if you'd like? I mean, I haven't spoken to him much, but he seems to have a vast knowledge of magic." Nina knew Dream didn't enjoy talking to people, and so she wanted to help. She liked Matthew. He reminded her of Jes, a bit. And if Matthew couldn't speak all of the time, well it truly wasn't his fault, was it?
"Living as a human, it does make sense that you do." She smiled at Dream. "You'll get used to me." Nina looked at Matthew and shook her head, amused. "Why thank you for the compliment." Her fingers gently stroked Matthew's head feathers, down his neck. "I did have your kid. I promise to not hurt Matthew," assuming that Dream's almost protest had to do with that and not anything to do with jealousy.
The tone of voice gave Nina pause and she regarded Dream, and said, gently teasing, "I promise you were supposed to hear the compliment, Dream. Besides, you are." Handsome, she meant. Her eyes looked empathetically at Matthew.
