Rose had tried without success to settle in the most formal room of the house. It was the room she had first officially met Steve in and which now bore no traces of that encounter. It was light, airy and the doors to the garden lay open offering a tantalising glimpse of the grounds which lay beyond.
She hadn’t been able to settle since she’d first arrived in the house but there was a different sort of fluttering in her stomach ; it was excitement at the opportunity to see her friends and find out how everything had affected them. Casting her mind back, she tried to recall when the last time they had all been in the same room and realised it was before the War ; back when Hogwarts was still open and long before the idea of them any of them becoming engaged has crossed their minds.
It was good of Mr Cornfoot to allow her friends to invade his house – no matter what she had been told, Rose couldn’t and wouldn’t allow herself to become comfortable with considering the house in Yorkshire her home but soon they would be here in the same room ; clean, fed and able to catch up and she’d be able to reassure herself that some-things were exactly as they were meant to be.
Sitting down, Rose smoothed out any wrinkles from her clothes and demurely folded her hands in her lap. That position lasted mere moments before there was an overwhelming urge to rise and make her way through to the Apparition point in the house. Did she look okay? She hoped she looked okay ; Eleanor always looked so polished and Silas just radiated energy wherever she went.
How had Azkaban changed them all? Fluffing the cushion that she had just been leaning against, Rose heard the chime of the clock and grinned as its announcement meant the imminent arrival of her friends. And her first look at Eleanors betrothed. Just what sort of man was Mr Higgs and how did he behave around her friend ? He was Silas’ cousin and yet she couldn’t recall the name from school which hinted he might be considerably older than herself and her Housemates.
It was nearly time for them to arrive, and Rose walked far too fast towards the apparition point to see if they had arrived, a nervous grin playing on her features.
