Severus caught her reaction from the corner of his eye but made no mention of it. She was hardly the only person to lose people to this idiotic war but at least she wasn't snivelling about it. One point in her favour. Snivelling people were even worse than stupid people... and he didn't even want to think about snivelling stupid people.
"Good," he said briskly. "If you leave a list, I will ensure you have the money. There are shops down the street. Do not even think about running away or escaping in any other manner. I will find you and you will not like the consequences."
He swept up the stairs and stopped again in the upper corridor. "That room is mine. You are not enter under any circumstances." He pointed to the bedroom at the front. The door was partially open offering a tantalising glimpse of the more private man. He pointed to the door next along the corridor. "That room is used for storage. If I ask you to retrieve anything for me that is where it will be." He pointed to the next door along. "That is the bathroom. I expect you to keep it clean."
He then pointed at the door at the back of the house that lead to what had once been his bedroom when he was a boy. Not that there was any sign of that. He'd long ago cleaned it out and now it held a small bed, a desk and a chair. He was letting her use that room because he knew where every hiding spot was. "That room is yours. You will find a pile of books on the desk in there. Other than keeping the kitchen and bathroom clean, you initial task will be to cross-reference those books on the subjects you will find on the parchment on the desk. I have provided you will quill, ink and parchment."
He paused and took a moment to step into his bedroom where he found the cat who had adopted him curled up on his bed. He picked her up, assuaging her indignant meow with a gentle caress and carried her out.
"This is Bastet." The cat stared at Orla with a glare not unlike what her owner was capable of. "She has free run of the house. You do not need to feed her. I do that." He placed the cat on the ground. She curled around his ankles once then wandered over to Orla to curl around her ankles and purr.
