Hestia really was going to hex off her arse.
Megan pondered this while sitting in the darkness of Kensington Gardens. She kept her back against the base of the intricate statue of Peter Pan and his mates while watching Tally (Taliesin, to use his full name) sniff about the grass not too far off. Cal might help Hestia if he found out she had not put the dog under the body-binding spell as instructed, but Megan felt terrible at the idea of rendering her pet immobile after leaving him for so long. Her parents had given Tally to her as a belated birthday gift barely four years ago, right before they died at the reckless hands of several giants, and how did she repay him? By keeping him in a small flat (not that the affordable size was Hestia's fault) and abandoning him to neighbors while she went on the run. Sure, she tried to take him to parks like this every day while she was at her new home, but it still didn't seem fair. She couldn't stand the idea of Mrs. Mathers, as kind as she was, having to give him to the pound by unless Megan knew for certain she could retrieve him soon. A couple little lies had been necessary, and a lot of planning, but the young Hufflepuff had thought she had mapped it all out. She would leave a note for Hestia and Cal and go to get the dog herself, catching a train and being back for her scolding by supper.
Some plans. They went awry from the moment Megan realised she couldn't get away until nearly sunset. Apparating to London had been easy. Side-along apparation back was another thing she couldn't risk. Megan knew her limits there, especially since apparating alone still caused her a bit of queasiness. She would have to stay the night, which had been fine with Mrs. Mathers and her young sons until Hestia had to go and remind Megan that Death Eaters really did have no rhyme or reason to their attacks. The thought of strange men attacking the kind family of muggles made her change her plans, again, and make up a story about meeting her half-sister at the station. She had checked the journal Hestia had given her for emergencies shortly after leaving the apartment building and continued to write as she led Tally along the sidewalks to Hyde Park, and then through it to Kensington. The lingering fear that maybe, just maybe, someone evil could have followed them refused to be shaken as she brushed hair out of her eyes.
A tree branch snapped and she jumped, holding her wand in the direction of the noise. She sighed in impatient relief to see some harmless woodland creature skittering into a bush, the border collie barking after it. "Tally, no!" she said, pushing herself up to go kneel and pet his fur. Maybe Cal had been right. If she really had put the lot of them in danger, and if she truly did want a chance at keeping her dog, then she would have to start teaching him how to sit quietly... and perhaps regard Hestia's orders a bit better.. Holding tightly to his collar, Megan led him back toward the statue before casting the body-binding charm, burying her face into his neck immediately after to wait for Cal and the wrath of her sister. "I'm sorry, boy."
