"What?" Suddenly her mind was flushed with confusion and anger, a little bit of denial. "You are making this up! This doesn't make any sense. How would you even know if it wasn't his?! You don't know anything about me!" Despite her rush of defensive babble she was starting to remember something and it was impossible for her to remain seated. She stood and started pacing the halls. He had said something about the baby. Something about the basement.
Lucas put her in the basement because the baby was black.
Verity started at him, the wind knocked out of her as things began to piece together. "That's not possible. This isn't possible." If he knew that the baby was black then she'd carried full term. She'd given birth.
"This isn't possible! I would remember! You can't just take that!" She was yelling now, less so at Steve and more at the concept he was introducing.
