Who: Angelina and Palmer
What: Hunting for a house big enough so they never have to see each other.
Where: Variety of areas, hoping from house to house.
When: Thursday, late morning
Rating: At least PG-13 for Angelina's mouth
Status: Closed/In Progress

The last thing she wanted to do was spend the day off she had with her future husband. But Palmer was going to be arriving at her flat in a few minutes, and then they were off to find a house to 'call their own.' As long as the house was large enough that she never had to lay eyes on him unless she deliberately looked for him. Like hell that would ever happen. Standing in her bathroom, Angelina tugged on her shirt just a little, tilting her head to the side. Her outfit of faded denim jeans, spiked black boots, and black tank top, covered by a form fitting black leather jacket should do. Her hair fell in lose curls nearly to her waste. Why she was so concerned about how she looked, she didn't know. Maybe she just needed to look her best around him so any jabs he may wanted to make about maybe her looking bad would be obviously false.

Sighing, she curled her finger around her hair for a moment, before walking out of her bathroom. Her purse was on their chair in her living room, beside it Nocturne, her kitten was curled up, peering at Angelina with vivid green eyes, the kinds of eyes felines had. She scooped up her ever growing kitten and cradled her in her arms, stroking her head. Nocturne began to purr, and Angelina smiled. "At least I'll still have you, and Nike, when I'm stuck in the marriage of hell." she muttered, before looking over to her owl, Nike, who was asleep on her pearch.

Her apartment was clean, well decorated, and finally just the way she liked it. Now she was going to have to move. On the plus side, Palmer didn't seem to have a problem with staying in Ireland. Or at least he hadn't before. But that was then, maybe he would have a problem with it now. Her gaze fell on her large windows, eyes scanning over the roof tops in front of her, ignoring the people who walked the ground many stories below. Hopefully this wouldn't be too painful.

His life was no longer his own. Montague worked for the Ministry and now his wife and future were being decided by them too. There was no way he and Saoirse could be together. They didn't even know the repercussions of if they were.

Heaving a long sigh, he stood outside Angelina's flat, collecting his thoughts before he was forced to endure a day of her sharp tongue. He finally knocked, leaning against the jamb of the door while he waited.

When she heard the knock, her turned to the door, a small frown tugging on her lips. Well, it was time. Setting her kitten down, she picked up her purse, and headed for the door. The sooner this was done, the sooner she could go back to ignoring him as much as possible.

She opened the lock on the door, keys in hand, and then pulled the door open, the noise giving him plenty of time to know the door was opening. She forced her face to appear neutral as she set her eyes on him. Well, at least he was easy on the eyes. "Hey. Ready to just try and get this done?" she was going to try really hard not to be a pain in the ass, though she doubted she'd be able to hold off for long.

The click of the lock turned and Palmer waited. He'd forgotten how tall she was and by the time Angelina answered the door, he was staring directly at her chest. Smiling, he met her dark eyes.

"Yes, I'm ready. We could have had a solicitor do this. I'm not going to be picky about where we live." He felt comfortable enough admitting that because he fully intended to keep his flat in Diagon. "Where first? Do you have a list?"

Her eyes narrowed slightly, she hadn't missed that had to raise his eyes, but she said nothing, locking her jar together for just a moment, until she could speak nicely again. "We could. But I'd rather look at the house I have to live in. You don't have to come, but I'm not letting a stranger do this for me." she didn't plan on keeping her flat. She really couldn't be bothered to pay for two places to live. If Angelina wanted to get out that badly, she'd go to a hotel. Or she'd visit George, Alicia or Katie. Besides, the houses she had in mind were large, and she planned on taking a room far from his.

She closed and locked her door, tossing her keys into her purse. "Not written down, but I know a few places in my head." she had looked into a few houses, and she knew that Palmer could afford him, especially if they split on it. Angelina had never lived in a house quite that big, but being a Professional Quidditch player had its perks. "The first one is just outside this city. In the country." with no annoying neighbors, and from the looks of the picture she'd seen, she could probably get away with setting up some kind of mini Quidditch pitch.

He nodded in agreement, glad that she had taken all the effort on herself to do this but was unable to find the words of his appreciation. "Since you seem to know the way, you can apparate us?"

Montague looked around her muggle neighborhood, wondering if anyone was about to see them leave or if they should step around the corner. His arm slid loosely around her back to make sure she didn't leave without him.

A quick scan of the hallway told her that no one was there, and so they should have time to apparate away. The neighbors would probably just ignore any odd sounds they heard. Shrugging, she nodded. "Sure." She moved her own arm around his back, just so she had a hold on him. A quick turn and she was gone, more than positive no muggle saw them.

When they landed, it was just outside the gate of the house she had in mind. She dropped her arm from around him, and then began to walk to the gate. It was being left open for them to look at, the owners were out, and so they had it to themselves to look. She opened the tall wooden gate, and looked at the house. It really was nice, with lots of outdoor room. "The owners are muggles, they've got horses here. But we could always convert the stables into something." they were bound to come up with a use for them, if they thought hard enough. "Shall we go inside?" she asked, looking back at him.

Once again on his own feet, he stared across the gate. The house was adequate and attractive and he offered Angelina a curt nod of approval. The mention of horses didn't appeal to him. He didn't have the time or inclination to take care of more than he needed to, but the space was too good to pass up.

Following Angelina to the door, they stood on the threshold. "It seems big enough." It seemed a waste to think about buying this home when he had Moat House, but the last thing he wanted to do was subject Angelina to his mother. Or vice versa.

She nodded her head slightly, glancing at him. "Five bedrooms. And with the right spells, there's a good space out back for flying." Five bedrooms would surly be enough. Everything about the house currently screamed muggle, from the microwave and the televisions, and other muggle games. She knew how to use and work all of them.

Angelina walked into the house, examining the main room, eyes moving to the staircase, gazing out the window etc. She moved to stand on the bottom steps, turning to look over her shoulder. "I'm heading upstairs to look. Tell me what you think when you see it all." she didn't expect him to follow her. She just waned to see the bedrooms, and see what they currently looked like.

"Five?" Palmer whistled his appropriate surprise. The door opened and he was impressed. He didn't care for the muggle gadgets but just because they were there didnt' mean he had to use them. Looking longingly out the back windows, he barely registered her voice as Angelina started up the stairs.

The home had a good feel to it. Whomever had lived there had lived happily and there were the lingering effects. Following her path, his steps weren't far behind his future bride, looking in each bedroom until he found her in one of the largest. "Claiming this one for your own?"

The idea of claiming this one wasn't lost to her. It was the Master Bedroom, but she was trying to be nice. Which meant he should have a claim to it to, or something. "Depends on how much you want it." she replied, turning to look over her shoulder. "It's the Master Bedroom, I believe. And this will be your house as much as mine. So I can't just claim one." as much as she wanted to. She'd try and agree to decide who got this in a fair way, unless he just didn't want it.

She really liked this house, and she had also got a peek at the bathroom. Angelina liked a good bathroom, and the one here looked nice, very nice. She didn't know how many it had, but there were probably a couple, all of them nice. "It's lovely." she added, looking back out in the hallway. "As far as I know, it's been inspected, no damage." Even if there was, they could probably find a way to fix it for free with magic.

She slid past him to walk across the hall to another room, opening the door. Her eyes swept the room quickly before she froze. Thank Merlin all this stuff wasn't going to be here if they ever decided to buy it. Inside the room was painted soft yellows, and held what was definitely a crib. A nursery for a baby. Her eyes went wide slightly as she took it all in. Quickly she shut the door, and moved on to the next room, deliberately not looking at Palmer.

"Considerate of you, Johnson. You surprise me." Palmer stared over her shoulder, taking in the direction of the light and where he'd situate his furniture. The furniture he'd need to buy if he left his flat furnished. "We could draw straws or flip a coin. Or you could just take it. I'm sure I can find another that works."

He nodded at the appropriate intervals, never having done business with muggles other than obliviate them for work. He would gladly let Angelina see to the exchange of fund or have a solicitor take care of it.

Following her lead, his brows knit together when she shut the door quickly and moved on. His curiosity got the better of him and once the door was reopened and he was over the moment of shock, he laughed. "Well, that's a bit too much to think about at the moment." Palmer stared at her moving away. "We're not... I mean, you didn't think... You didn't expect to have my children, did you?" But with the new law, you might have to learn to consider your wife in that aspect, Mont.

"I'm capable of being nice, Montague." she was nice to all her friends after all. And since he seemed to be trying to be civil, she could do the same. "I'll take it if you want to find another one. If not, Heads or Tails it is." flipping a coin would be fair. As much as she wanted the room, she wasn't going fuss if she lost.

She winced slightly when she heard his laugh, thank god her face was turned away. Well at least he was laughing about it. If Angelina had been drinking anything, she probably would have choked on it. "Yea, it is. I'm sure we could redecorate it." she didn't want to think about that right now, and turning that into another spare bedroom would be best, probably.

Sighing, Angelina turned around to face him, walking backwards toward another room. "I want kids, Montague. Always have, after I'm done Quidditch. But with this new law in place, looks like I'll be adopting." What were the chances of finding an orphan with magic? Slim to none, but she could try to find one.

No, she didn't want Montagues kids. She'd only do that if she had to. If the law hadn't been made, maybe she could have found another unwilling person forced into marriage, maybe she could have actually found someone she cared about, and been with them. Kids could have been possible. "Because unless we both break down and decide a good shag is more important than not liking each other, that's the only way I'm getting one." and right now, she was not ready to break down. Not that she associated a good shag with kids, but hey, it was the same steps, and it got her point across better. Turning again, she pushed open the next door, just glancing in at it again.

Palmer felt his pockets, half-heartedly looking for a sickle or a knut to help them decide. "Just take it if this is th house you want. I'll make do."

He raised his voice, making sure she could hear him as she walked away. "Yeah, after Quidditch. That could be another six or seven years." That comment was meant to nettle her just a little. Johnson probably had longer than that left on the pitch but motherhood was a slightly different story.

Montague shrugged and left then nursery, continuing down the hall. "I can dislike you and still shag you. I'm male." He smirked. "I don't have to fancy you to fuck you." His eyes traveled up and down her body, feeling remorse for what would happen with Saoirse.

Normally she'd have no problem with making all the decisions, but for whatever reason, his 'just take it' behavior was irking her. "I like it, it's a nice house. But do you like it?" she had no problem with it, and honestly, it was the one she had picked from the houses she had been looking at in the paper. That was why she came here first.

Angie rolled her eyes slightly, shaking her head. Ignore the comment, ignore the comment. She bit back a snark reply to counter the jab at her age, weren't they the same age anyway? "I think I have longer than that. And I don't plan to stay until I'm too old to play anymore." that could be a while. She still had years to go, but a family was in her plan. Even a family that was separate from her soon to be husband.

An eyebrow was raised at the comment. The words didn't phase her, she talked like that most of the time. Shrugging, she turned and moved back to stairs. She didn't miss the once over of her body. Let him look, she didn't care. "Maybe you've been listening to the wrong stores about me, Montague. I'm a not a whore. It will take more than good looks for me to fuck you." She didn't do assholes, so they were both going to have to deal with that.

"Yes, I like it. It will work for us. I really don't need to see any others unless you just want to drag me around Ireland for the afternoon."

Palmer moved closer when she shook her head. "You have to take care of yourself too. It's not just about training and conditioning. You never know when you're going to take a bludger to the head. And that has nothing to do with age."

Snorting his frustration, he looked away. "What does your not being a whore have to do with any desire I may or may not have for you? I've not heard any stories about you. I think you're one of the few professional players that keeps their life out of the spotlight." Or at least by comparison to Flint.

"As much fun as spending the afternoon with you would be," she grinned, sarcasm clear on her voice. "I do have work this afternoon." she had been hoping this place would work. Now all she had to do was call up the agent and put in the offer. She already knew they could afford what the asking price was, but it never hurt to see if she could score just a tiny bit lower.

When he moved closer, she didn't bother to move, she just looked up at him. Her eyes hardened slightly. Not because she was angry. He was right, she knew that. It was one of the aspects of Quidditch she tried really hard not to think about, and even harder to avoid. She could get hurt no matter what job she was in. Though yeah, Quidditch upped the chances. "I've had worse." she said, not that it was a good excuse. "I'll just have to hope I'm excellent at dodging bludgers." it wasn't like she didn't have practice. Her beaters couldn't be there to protect them all the time, as hard as they tried.

"My personal life is none of the tabloids business." she said with a nod, confirming what he said. She did not mix up the two if she could avoid it. "I'm simply saying, you may be extremely good looking, but it takes more than that for me to act on any desires I may or may not have." she answered, mimicking is choice of words. He, he was gorgeous, she wouldn't deny it, but that wasn't enough. She was stuck with him, he wasn't one of those rare guys you could take home and then never see again. Not that she was known to do that.

Montague was surprised by her compliment about his looks. Not that she wouldn't have notice. Most women noticed. But that she would have admitted it to him. "I'd not expect you to act on your desires or do anything rash other than not hex me in my sleep."

Reaching into his pocket, his thumb threaded into the band of the ring he'd found for her. It wasn't a heirloom. He couldn't let himself give her a piece of Montague jewelry when this marriage was something neither of them desired. Slowly he took her hand, his thumb resting in the center of her palm as he wiggled the ring into her grasp. It wasn't a romantic gesture, he wouldn't get down on one knee or even ask the words. They both knew they were moving forward with this. "Obviously you won't be wearing it on the pitch, but I thought you'd want a ring nonetheless."

"I prefer to hex people when they're looking." she said with a shrug. "So they know it's me kicking their arse." it was true, most people she turned her wand against, it wasn't a sneak attack. They knew Angelina had done it to them. It was just a matter of making sure there were no witnesses, or making sure they couldn't full on prove it.

She watched him pick up her hand, going tense again, she wasn't overly comfortable with him just touching her whenever, even if it was just a hand. Her confused face moved into a bit of a surprised one. She hadn't been expecting a ring. She hadn't even been sure she wanted one. This whole thing wasn't what she wanted. She definitely wouldn't be wearing it on the pitch. If she got hit in the hand, the last thing she wanted was the ring dug into her skin. And she looked silly.

It really was lovely ring. She examined it in her hands, not sure what to make of this. What did you say when the man you were forced to marry, but didn't like, gave you a ring just because you may have wanted one. "That wasn't necessary." she said. Any dreams she had of the wedding she always wanted were pretty much dead these days. "But thank you." she knew it wasn't anything from his family, the design was too new. She wouldn't want something from that anyway.

"My wife deserves a ring and I'd be a git if I didn't get you one. It can mean what you want to mean. Consider it a peace offering." Montague gave her a weak, bland smile and moved around Angelina down the stairs, slipping out into the back garden.

The area was huge to the tree line and would give them ample space to charm away from prying eyes. The could fit a half-sized pitch at least. It was quiet and remote and for the moment he could see himself enjoying the country.

A peace offering it was then, because she wouldn't have considered him a git for not getting her a ring. Usually a ring was supposed to mean something special. She glanced at him over her shoulder as he left, and then looked down at the ring again with a sigh. Since when did life get so fucking ridiculous?

And here she had thought hell was gone once the war was done. After a few minutes, she headed down stairs, looking for him. Once she found him, she gave him a few minutes alone, before heading outside. "Just a question." she said, coming up to stand a few feet away from, but beside him. "Why are you being so...civil about this? I mean, we were never friends, we never liked each other. I sort of figured this was going to turn into a shouting match. Or you'd have given me a list of reasons not to do this." she didn't want to be in jail, but she didn't get it. Honestly, she had half expected him to have a girlfriend that he would want to marry. Maybe he did, and maybe she was a pureblood, which would explain it.

Distractedly, Montague looked over as Angelina joined him. "What's the benefit in being uncivil? If you'd rather not marry, I'll stand by you on that but I won't not wed you just to be belligerent. I'm not that selfish."

Palmer squared his shoulders, turning toward her with his arms crossed over his chest. He shrugged as if he were trying to convince himself even before he spoke the words. "I wish this could be more than what it is. What it will be. I don't love you. I've already given that away and have to deal with that in my on conscious. I could ask you the same questions. Why are you so willing to go along with this? I know I can't be ideal for a mate in your eyes."

"I'd rather not marry, but I'd rather not be in jail more." which was pretty much her reason to go along with this. And it was a damn good reason, so it wouldn't change.

She winced slightly when he mentioned that he loved someone else. Not that she cared about that, she cared that someone probably loved him back, and she was standing in the way. That sucked. "Is she pureblood? If not, you could just marry her." what would the ministry have to bitch about? It would still dilute the pureblood line. Leaving Angeline free and quite happy.

A small shrug of her shoulders was given as she looked back out across the grass. "There's only one person I can think of who I've felt strongly enough about to want to marry them. And he's dead." she said softly, and slight pang of loss running through her as she pictured his face. "I've never found someone else that important, so it doesn't matter who they match me up with, they will never be him." It wasn't like she had been thinking of marrying him when he was alive. But if he was no, he'd probably be the one she was hoping for. Maybe they'd be together now? Who knew.

"You're just trading one prison for another." His eyes softened on Angelina at her expression, her words surprising him to the point he almost couldn't answer her. "She's not. Half-blood, from here, in Ireland."

Raising his arm, his hand slid lightly over Johnson's back, as he just now realised they were both in their misery together. "If you're talking about one of those blokes that stuffed me in a vanishing cabinet, I can guess why you're still in love with him." Palmer gave a weak smile at the poor attempt at humour. "So if I do marry someone else, what happens to you? To the rest of us? Would that just make the three of us candidates for Azkaban?"

"At least I can still go where ever the hell I want to go with this one." there wasn't a whole lot she could do behind bars. No flying, to freedom, no family, friends...nothing. The lesser of two evils, so to speak. "Well there you go, there's legally nothing wrong with marrying her."

Her muscles automatically tensed again when his hand moved, but she forced herself to relax right after, not bothering to look over at him. A slightest of grins flashed across her face at the memory of Fred and George coming back to tell them what they had done to Montague. Angie had laughed for what seemed like ages. She didn't know if she had actually been in love with Fred, but if not, it had been close.

"I have no idea. But legally, what's wrong with it? The bloodlines match. I'm not going to kick up a fuss. There's no reason why you can't be with someone you love." no point in both of them being miserable. Maybe another match would land her withs someone she could laugh with.

Palmer shrugged. "You and I might see it that way, but the Ministry thinks that they are in charge." His gaze traveled over the grounds again, now completely perplexed as to what to do about the present situation.

"Can you tell the seller to hold on for a while? We can make a good faith deposit if you want to hold it. If you can spare me as your husband, I can at least contact the Ministry to see if they'd allow it." He didn't hold out much hope that things would work in his favour, but he had to try.

"I'm fairly sure Kingsley and the Ministry have gone mad. He was supposed to be a good choice for Minister when they put him in. Now look at the mess he's created." when she had heard him on the twins and Lee's radio station, or when she had heard about him in the final battle...she had put confidence in him. Now she thought he was a nut job.

"I can keep the seller waiting for a while, actually." it wouldn't be hard, just do some continued counter offers. If she had to use magic, she would, and they'd never know. "By all means, find out, and quickly." she wasn't going to protest. Angelina did not want to marry this guy, at all. Though she wasn't going to hold her breath, who ever this girl was? Still fit the description of the woman Montague needed to be paired with.
