Who: Wayne Hopkins, Ginny Weasley, Friends & Family
When: [Backdated] July 24th, 2002
Where: The Burrow
What: The Wedding Bells are Ringing.
Rating: E for Everyone
Status: Open / In Progress

In all honesty, it had been everything a wedding was suppose to be. Their friends, family and those they cared about had gathered around them, offering their love and support, Ginny had looked gorgeous in the dress she had picked out, the surroundings were lovely. There had been something missing, though, and Wayne was sure several of the guests had noticed it as well.

What was missing? The sense of a strong bond between those married. He and Ginny had made their truce, but neither one of them were emotionally attached. What had drawn them together was necessity...and that had lingered slightly in the air. Depsite this small fact, everything seemed in place. His Grandparents had immediately taken to Ginny and he had to admit that Ginny's family had been rather welcoming and understanding, given the circumstances.

They hadn't decided on living arrangements just yet, but as it were, he could see them reaching some sort of compromise. Over time the emotional bond might very well develop, but if it didn't they would continue to survive. After all, they were in this together and he at least knew that she'd have someone to lean on if she needed it.

As that very thought crossed his mind, his eyes searched out his new wife. The word was still new and he had a feeling it would be quite some time until the awkwardness would fade, but he had high hopes. Spotting her sitting with her family, he headed in that direction. </center>

Ginny was now a wife. She had been figuring this would be happening some day, of course, but perhaps later in life, maybe at a different location, and definitely with someone else. Ginny had always thought she'd do these things with someone else. She'd have this ceremony, share these festivities, argue about whose last name to take, argue about who gets to unwrap the most gifts, all with someone else in her mind's future prediction. To be honest, Wayne had begun to grow on Ginny. She swore, within a few minutes of knowing him, that she had hated him. A few pounds of guilt later, some time, and some air, had led her to the conclusion that a lot of things after the war had let her to. To be happy with what she has.

However, considering that this seemed to be a rushed version of things she always knew she wanted at her wedding, she was rather satisfied with the outcome. Ginny had a simple dress of light material that was far more comfortable than most other dresses she'd be forced into. Wayne looked handsome, if not endearing all dressed up and outside of the Tavern and Ginny was, indeed, impressed with him. She had only hoped he'd come to tolerate her since their first unsuccessful meeting, if only for her own sanity. Because, honestly, he was stuck even if he wished death upon her. They made it through the ceremony and Wayne made it through meeting her family. If that was not worth something, Ginny didn't know what was.

Of course Ginny could feel the void in the festivities. She had made sure to have a drink or two in her, and so while she was certainly stressed, she also began to feel endearment toward her family and Wayne's, who really did nothing but support their decision, even if it only meant not seeing their child and grandchild being sent to Azkaban. Ginny had found herself smiling more than she thought she would. "I like your Grandparents," Ginny had said genuinely into Wayne's ear as they made their way to another small group of family members. "Really." Ginny recalled offering him a smile, as well.

Ginny was still figuring Wayne out as much as she could. She had found, even with all the guests around them, that she had spent most of her time observing him. If one could not sum up someone by a stressful situation testing wits and patience such as, well, a wedding, then what could be used to sum up someone? The two had parted ways as one of her brothers grabbed her by the upper arm and pulled her towards Auntie Muriel who was still kicking and apparently had been spewing awful, but hilarious, comments about Ginny's choice in husband and in flowers.

If Wayne truly was willing to help her out in this partnership, and Ginny would owe him big time, then he would have understood the silent plea for salvation in her wide eyes and pursed lips she shot him as he made his way towards them. With loud laughs coming from her brothers, Ginny looked away from Auntie Muriel, who she had been placed in front of in a chair, towards Wayne. Thank Merlin he was coming this way.

Even if he had despised Ginny, it would have been quite clear that she needed rescuing. As the case was, he didn't hate her and he wouldn't very well leave her to fend for herself when she clearly needed a rescue. Being her husband, that duty fell to him, though he had to admit, it wasn't a hardship at all.

After arriving at their table, Wayne had made a polite excuse to steal Ginny away. He had a feeling her Aunt's opinion of him jumped even further south then it already was, but he couldn't very well please everyone. As long as he pleased Ginny, he supposed he was doing a fairly decent job. It helped that they appeared to get along great with the in-laws (with the exception of Muriel).

"You looked like you needed a rescue," he offered, steering her off toward their spots at the main table. With everyone mingling, the bridal party was busy and while the table was located at the front of the room, it did offer a small bit of piece and quiet.

Ginny had long since been able to fend for herself. She was taught at a young age to allow Auntie Muriel to say what she wanted. Not so much let as be unable to change her mind about her thoughts. And so having sat there for a good minutes, listening to how Wayne's hair was too long, his features were too bland, and her dress was far too simple - she wasn't even wearing a tiara and her hair was down! - Ginny had figured she did her duty for the day. You'd think it would be getting married. No. It's listening to Auntie Muriel.

Ginny stood up before Wayne even finished requesting her presence (perhaps even too politely for Auntie Muriel to understand him), and stepped away from her chair, giving whichever laughing brother she could reach a hard punch in the arm before she departed, her jaw clenched. Ginny walked closely next to Wayne, grabbing his arm and rolling her eyes. "Thank you," she said between a whisper and an exclamation. She was glad to be walking in that direction.

While Ginny did not usually admit when she needed a rescue, but her mother would have respected some sort of decency out of her daughter on her wedding, afterall Muriel was a guest. Ginny's steps wavered as they approached their table. "Acting as the knight in shining armour already?" Ginny laughed lightly. "No thanks for that. But seriously. Thanks for that other thing." Ginny looked around them, "Your grandparents having fun?"

"I've met Muriel, remember." he responded, raising an amused eyebrow. "It was my pleasure to steal your company away from her. I didn't think her opinion of me was low enough yet."

For some, the disapproval of Ginny's Aunt might have very well been upsetting, but he wasn't everyone and the comments had slid off of him. It was this relaxed attitude that allowed him to run a pub smoothly and successfully and he hoped that it would do him well in a marriage. He would have to wait to find out, but he was hoping it would.

Reaching their spots, he pulled out her chair for her. Having been raised by his grandparents, he had the traditional manners drilled into him. One held the door open for a woman, pulled out her chair, and all together respected them. It was natural for him. He hadn't even put much thought into the action. At her question about his Grandparents, he grinned. His Grandmother had gotten a hold of Molly Weasley and it looked like the two of them were hitting it off. He could only imagine what it was they were talking about. "I think my Grandmother wants to take your Mother home with her."

Ginny's mouth curved into a smirk. She looked at the grass beneath their feet. She loved that grass. Blinking up at Wayne at her side, she grimaced. "Yeah, sorry about that. The whole having to meet her thing." Laughing lightly, Ginny squinted in the light of the scene. She was glad how it had turned out, she supposed. Of course, a large part of it was misplaced. Ginny wasn't sure exactly how her mother or father felt about it, but she was sure this seemed to be an easier result for them than another fine or Azkaban for their only daughter.

Ginny, as far as she could tell from Wayne's character that Muriel wouldn't phase him. She was glad, at the very least. Once Wayne and Ginny got over the whole arguing and, Ginny was sure, hating thing, Wayne's easy-going nature certainly helped the difficulty of the planning of the situation.

Ginny gave Wayne a look as he pulled out her chair. It may have been gentlemanly, but she was not used to it. She ws quite sure she never would be and for good reason. Ginny's hand simultaneously grabbed the top of the chair. She felt she had pulled the chair out for herself, at least a bit, and she sat down, nearly laughing. Ginny did laugh once Wayne spoke, her eyes looking at her silverware. "She can have her. Your Grandmum can talk to her as much as she wants. Should save me some conversation with my mum." Ginny blinked up at him again. "How about you, having fun?" Half was sarcasm, the other half was genuine. Shed like to know.

Wayne shrugged. "It wasn't your fault. You can choose your friends but you can't choose your family. I would have met her eventually, I'm sure. It's a big deal, really." He wasn't exactly phased by meeting the extended family, it was just something he took bit by bit. Eventually, he'd be completely comfortable around them. As it were, he was just taking his time and allowing it to pass over him.

Wayne didn't blink when she had reached for the chair herself, simply carried on with what he'd been doing and taking a seat beside her. "You realize that if she takes her, the two of them will create twice the trouble." He responded, shaking his head. "My Gran isn't as innocent as she looks. She can be right terror."

When she asked whether he was having fun, he had to think on how to answer that. There was a part of him he was sure enjoyed the event, but another part of him was fighting that. "I'm...open-minded," he eventually responded, knowing it probably wasn't the answer she was looking for. "This has gone relatively well, so I'm quite interested in how things will turn out."

Ginny smirked at Wayne when he spoke of his Grandmother. Her eyes searched the yard for her. There she was, in fact, chatting away with her mother. "Your Grandmum? That lovely woman?" Ginny looked at Wayne, raising a casual eyebrow. "I don't buy it. She can't be as scheming as my mum." Of course, Ginny could see by Wayne's Grandmother's eyes that she had more kick than she let on.

Ginny sat with little poise, apart from that she was born with. Her elbow rested on the table and her other elbow was thrown over the back of her chair. Her crossed legs were the most lady-like part of her at the moment and her eyes returned to Wayne. She did honestly want to know how he was feeling about it all, if only to compare it to her own. She was not expecting a flowery answer - she usually could count on Wayne to not give her that when she asked questions. It was one of his character traits she had come to appreciate. It was why she asked questions like that upfront.

Her face sobered a bit. She was glad he didn't lie. "Yeah, I'm interested, too, I guess." Ginny was still not sure exactly how she felt. These last few weeks have been the most unsure of her life. The war was easy - she knew what she believed, she knew what was right, she knew she wanted to help. This pile of events left a strange hollow, vague, basically unsure feeling in her stomach that she did not at all like. "It has gone well." She spoke plainly, playing with her soup spoon, both elbows now on the table. "Thanks for cooperating."

"You won't be the first whose surprised, believe me." he responded, his eyes falling on the two women before moving to scan the rest of the crowd. For such a short period of preperation, he was surprised by how many people were actually in attendance.

If Wayne was bothered by her lack of poise, he didn't show it. In all honesty, he wasn't really big on protocal. He simply acted as he saw fit and didn't bother with the majorities opinion. It sounded like that would be problematic, but it had suited him well as he was in no hurry to change his ways. As far as he was concerned Ginny could sit however she wanted to if she was comfortable.

She didn't have to thank him for cooperating, but he didn't mention anything, knowing that half the time you told someone not to thank you, they continued to do it anyway. "Thanks for putting up with me." he offered in response.

While the festivities were meant to be happy and, sure, she could spot some smiles in the crowd. Even Ginny had cracked a good number of smiles. However, Ginny wasn't as happy as she'd imagine she'd be on this day, had it happened in her future plans. She tried, for mostly everyone else's sake, to put on a clear face and go through with it. Most of the aching in her bones and her chest, though, were begging her to do otherwise. Things were not seeming to work out. Surely they had been married, things with the Ministry would be solved, if not made neutral, but Ginny had not been herself for quite some time.

Ginny looked plainly at Wayne, though her eyes were full of meaning. They showed a mix of contempt, honesty, and sarcasm, of course. "You know it should be the other way around." She was speaking truly. She was not changing it to get a certain response, just speaking the words straight from her mind. They contained no pretense, no self preservation, no point to prove, and no flattery. She continued to twist her fork in between her hands, her eyes following it. She was, for one of the rare times in her life, just speaking. "And you know I was the one who needed to be put up with."

Ginny blinked back to Wayne, offering him a small smile, but that was about all she could offer. Ginny was searching the crowd again, not for new additions to her family, but for the one she came from. She spotted her mother again, her good number of brothers, though one less than she remembered at the last wedding in that yard. Ginny saw her father. She'd like to have had him in her immediate presence at the moment.

Ron milled about with his family after the ceremony, feeling kind of bewildered and a bit off. How did this happen like this? So suddenly? he thought to himself, as he took up a glass of champagne and sipped on it. i>One minute, I see her with my best friend, snogging like mad, and the next, she is walking down the aisle with the Hufflepuff?</i>

Ron's bewilderment was complete. He would have never seen this coming, and he wondered what would be next? George marrying Pansy Parkinson? Or himself? He gulped slightly, and downed the last of his glass, and felt a bit queasy at the thought; who was he going to be hitched up with? He didn't want to dwell on it, as he passed by George and Bill in his wanderings about the reception area. He nodded to his brothers, and gave them both a weak smirk. He needed to find Ginny and congratulate her, maybe even grab a dance with her. And he should really shake Wayne's hand. He wasn't sure how he felt about the guy, but Ginny had said yes and gone through with it, so he figured she must be at least okay about the match.

And where was Harry? How was he taking this?. At least he seems to be embracing the match they gave him, although Ron could not fathom that was going to work out very well. She was a Slytherin, for pities sake!

Ron found another glass, and moved with more purpose this time, seeing Ginny and making his way towards her.
