WHO: Tracy Davis & Blaise Zabini
WHEN: Wednesday, June 25th
WHERE: La Lanterna
WHAT: Hopefully civil conversation
RATING: E I guess
STATUS: Closed / In Progress

Blaise tapped his fingers in a slow, repetitive rhythm on the table in front of him, frowning down at his water glass as he waited for Ms. Davis to arrive. This was the second time he had to go through this, waiting to meet with a woman who would no doubt become his wife. He sighed. He couldn't even bring himself to be that upset about it now, it was all just...tiring. He forced himself to stop the tapping, moving his hands away from the table to tug at the sleeves of his suit jacket so that the hems were perfectly straight. Did it make any difference at all? No, of course not but at least his wardrobe was one thing he had control over.

He glanced around the half crowded restaurant, trying to spot the woman in the dimly lit place. He had never taken the time to actually speak more than a couple of words to her during their time at Hogwarts but he was sure he could recognize her in the crowd of muggles. He wasn't sure how this would go from their little conversation on the journals but at the moment he knew he really didn't have to energy to argue.

In retrospect Tracey really should not have taken the time to pick an outfit for a meeting with a man she already disliked. He told her what to do. How dare he! However, even a simple thing like picking out her outfit calmed her a little. To show she was not out to really impress she picked out a pair of flared black dress pants and a white peasant shirt to wear. She picked out her favourite heeled boots and by the time she fastened her necklace she was calm enough.

Tracey entered the restaurant with a blank face, telling the host she was here to meet with a Mr. Zabini. When she arrived at the table she looked down at her former schoolmate with a slight sneer. "Mister Zabini. Good evening."

Already Blaise could feel his nerves being grated when the woman finally appeared in front of him. He barely resisted the urge to return her sneer with one of his own as he looked up at her but he controlled himself. Clearly she was not going to make the easy. He stood from his chair and nodded at her in greeting, doing his best to keep his expression politely blank.

"Ms. Davis." He gestured towards the chair across from him. "Please, have a seat." As he waited for her to sit first, he took in her appearance. She would probably be lovely if she wasn't sneering at him like that.

Well at least he said the word please. As it was, Tracey was beginning to feel her anger returning and if she was going to attempt a calm conversation then she needed to defuse any anger. Taking her seat, Tracey waved over the waiter. "A glass of sweet tea please. Oh, and I suppose he may want something as well."

Tracey smoothed out her trousers as the waiter looked to Blaise. Once he was gone she forced a small smile. "I am going to be perfectly clear with you. I have no intention of marrying you."

Blaise sat down and waved off the waiter. He was fine for now. Once the man had disappeared, he looked across the table to Tracey, lips pressed into a thin line or irritation.

"Listen to me, I have no intention of paying a fine or going to Azkaban." He took a breath, doing him best to keep the irritation from bleeding into his voice. He understood what she was feeling but did she really not get that they had no choice? "Look, we are not the first people that this has happened to and we are not the only ones who don't want to do it but if so many other people have tired to refuse, and fight, and raise a stink and have failed what makes you think that we have any choice? You'll do better to just accept things as how they're going to be."

"Are you finished, Zabini?" Tracey sneered, sitting up straight in her chair and giving him a condescending look. "You may try to reason all you like, however, I am not being forced into a marriage simply because the Ministry has gone mad. The others who went defied them were weaker willed. I fully intend to stand to my principles. Nobody is going to dictate my life." Neither you or the Ministry. She left those words unsaid though.

The polite expression he had been so painstakingly keeping in place dropped and his eyes narrowed, teeth clenching. "This has nothing to do with willpower or principles. Do you think I'm overjoyed about this? Do you think I like the fact that the path my life is supposed to take is being picked out by someone else? No, I don't but I have sense enough to know that kicking and screaming the entire way in only going to end in a waste of time and a whole lot of frustration. Accept it now, there is nothing we can do."

If it had been anybody who annoyed her less, she may have given in. As it was, Blaise just made her angry enough that her stubborn airs kicked up. "Let me think about this... Hm." She eyed the ceiling for a second, pretending to think. Then she inspected her nails to stall even more. Finally she looked at Blaise again with a smile. "Oh you are absolutely right. I have seen the error of my ways. The best thing to do is accept all of this." Each sentence was dripping with sarcasm.

"If I marry you I do not want a ceremony, I only want to file the paperwork and I never want to see your face again after that. That is the only way I am giving in."

Blaise stared hard at her for a moment, face cold as he tried to keep his temper in check. Why did she have to do this? The situation was already hard enough but to have to deal with a partner that was being unnecessarily uncooperative was only making this an even worse experience for the both of them. Having her put on such a show was doing nothing more than reminding him just how little control he had over this and he hated it.

Taking a slow breath through his nose, he drew himself up an nodded once, sharply. "Fine, Ms. Davis. If you want to make this situation as difficult and unhappy as possible, what can I do to stop you?" The words were spoken coolly as Blaise tried to keep himself from snapping at her in irritation and frustration. "We can forgo the ceremony, I don't care much for one either, and you can do as you please with your life but I do hope you realize that it is not very likely the Ministry will allow use to just get married and go our separate ways." His lips twitched in distaste at the sudden thought of Shacklebot.

"I had hoped that we would have come to a more realistic decision but once again, what can I do?"

"No offense Mr. Zabini, but I would rather see you dead then have to walk down an aisle before you. Seeing you would make it as unhappy as possible, as you nicely put it. Not having to see you and going on with my normal life is actually quite a nice alternative for me." Of course, if Tracey had her way she would be poisoning him anyways. Who needs a live husband anyways? The waiter was back with their drinks and Tracey gave him a flirtatious smile as she took the tea.

"Kingsley Shacklebolt may do all he can, but I will not have anybody dictating my life. Especially not some man who should be kept in Mungos."

Well, there goes all chance of civility. Now they were apparently down to death threats.

A dark brow rose as Blaise spoke. "How constructive." Two could play at the sarcasm game. He waited until the waiter had left them before speaking again. "Does it really make any sense for you to be lashing out at me as if any of this is my fault? If you feel such a fantastic urge to release your anger please, be my guest to storm up to the Ministry and rant and rave at Shacklebot, as long as you realize that it'll do you little good." He lifted his previously untouched water glass to take a small sip. "You may think it will be easy to just get married and go about with our separate business but even if its just on paper, marriage changes people." Already with the few couples who had managed to marry, he could see the change. None of them were the same.

"I would like this to go away as much as you would but it won't."

"Oh? And what would you propose we do, Zabini? Should I start planning to be Mrs. Zabini immediately?" Oh how she would like to take that fork and twist it in his neck. Or rather Shacklebolt's, however, it really was much easier to be angry with this man.

Frowning, Tracey traced the top of her glass before picking it up to take a drink. She wished it was some form of alcohol, but she could always go drinking with El later. Stupid Ministry and their forced marriages.

'You're the last person in the world who deserves to be Mrs. Zabini.' He almost let it slip, he really did but he held his tongue. Oh no, he would not contribute to the already strained situation. He tightened his lips again.

"Yes." He snapped out. "You should start planning to be a married woman. That is all you can do."

A series of insults almost slipped out of her mouth and she was forced to press her lips tightly together to keep from insulting him further. She took another drink of her sweet tea to calm down.

"Lovely." This whole situation was hell. She probably would have liked and flirted with Blaise if it weren't for the obligation to marry him. Or the fact that he seemed to be a complete and utter fool, doing what the Ministry told him. "Very well, then I shall start planning our wedding immediately." Tracey smirked, imagining all the ways she could make an arse out of him at their ceremony.

Blaise pinched the bridge of his nose, eyes closing briefly as a sudden migraine flared at the back of his head. This was exactly what she was, a headache, a hassle, another stress to add to his shoulders. He was tired of it already.

"I doubt my mother would let you touch the wedding plans." For once he was glad his mother was so overbearing, at least she would do her best to keep this wedding from being more of a disaster as he could already see it being. He pushed back his chair and stood, pausing to drop a couple of muggle pounds on the table, only the manners his father had drilled into his head making him pay for her drink.

"This meeting was most enlightening Ms. Davis." He said coldly. "But I think it would be best for me to take my leave. It was nice," he sneered. "to meet you."

Without a backwards glance at his forced upon fiance, he strode out of the restaurant and into the nearest alley, apparting home before he exploded in public.

How dare he! Tracey was left seething at the table and actually felt pitious looks from the people around her. How dare he! She was pissed! Nearby a vase exploded, making a couple scream. Tracey smiled as she stood up, picking up her purse.

She was not going to marry Blaise. His mother could plan the wedding all she wanted, but when the day came she fully intended on having that man all by himself at the altar. Sodding bastard.
