Who: Daphne Greengrass & Harry Potter
Where: Daphne's flat
When: NOW
What: Ice cream?
Rating: We'll see
Status: Incomplete/closed

It was only a day away until Harry and Daphne were getting married. Part of her was actually excited because it was her wedding that she and her mother planned and that she had been waiting for since she was just a little girl. But the other part was still overly upset about being forced into the marriage. The good thing, however, is that Harry wasn't such a bad bloke. Not if he sent her ice cream and flowers as an apologly for whatever he was apologizing for. She didn't mind because that just meant he was able to come over and spend more time with her. That's kind of what they needed to do, spend time together. They had to get to know each other more and get used to being around each other.

As it was late and after work, Daphne was already out of her clothing and into her pajamas, shorts and an old long sleeve shirt she had stopped wearing due to wear and tear over the years. It was suitable enough for bed, and since that's all Daphne had on her agenda before Harry had owled her, thats what she was clothed in. The ice cream sat on her coffee table, the two spoons sitting next to it as she waited on her couch. She was sort of tired from the day she had had at work, once more trying to explain to her boss why Mr. McNanamey's portkey was missing. It wasn't her fault she couldn't concentrate on making them the other day. Her wedding was plaguing her mind.

Just as that thought once again entered her mind, a knock was heard at the door, surely enough to be Harry. Daphne smirked and stood, walking over to the door to unlock it and open it. "Took you long enough," she said playfully, opening it wider for him and stepping aside to let him in before she would close the door behind him.

Well, it had seemed as though Daphne had accepted his apology, which worked out quite well for them both, seeing as they were to be married and in a days time...not to mention that they'd be living under the same roof. He personally didn't want to start off on bad terms simply because he liked to speak before he could think the thought through. Guys tend to do that a lot, or so he'd been told.

He raised a slight eyebrow when she opened the door. It wasn't a logical thought, but he found himself to be a bit surprised that she was dressed down. He supposed it was simply because all the previous times they had met had been in public, which meant she was well put together...not that there was anything wrong with the current attire.

"I apparated outside your building." he responded with a laugh as he stepped inside and removed his shoes. "Anything quicker and I would have come flying out your fireplace. I figured that would be rude."

Smiling, Daphne watched him as he quirked a brow in her direction as she held in a laugh. Yeah, she was rather dressed down, but she didn't care. It was summer, it was humid and it was her own flat, she didn't care about who saw her in this state. Plus, it wasn't like she didn't know she looked damn good in whatever she wore. Even a potato sack would have done something flattering to her. Daphne used her looks a lot and it showed.

"Not rude, but I probably would have screamed bloody murder as soon as I saw you. That fireplace hasn't been used for floo in almost a year now." She really wasn't used to flooing. Mostly just apparating or walking. Apparating being the much more useful one. "Anyway, come make yourself comfortable before this fantastic gift you've purchased for me melts.

In the center of the coffee table where their ice cream sat, was the flowers he had sent, set up in an elegant vase she had found in her spare room. "Thank you for the flowers, by the way."

Harry laughed and glanced back towards her. "Another good reason to avoid the floo. If you don't announce yourself the person you've come to see screams bloody murder and then you find yourself dealing with some awkward questions coming from the neighbours."

Moving further into the flat, he eyed the flowers and ice cream as she mentioned them. He'd felt quite guilt about opening his mouth when she'd left the restaurant the other day. There had been no need for the sarcasm at all. "No thank you is necessary. I'm just glad you like them."

"I hear melting is a tragedy though. It just isn't the same after that." he teased lightly, taking a spot up beside her on the couch. "And you know me, I'm allergic to tragedy."

"Ah, good point! I forgot all about my neighbors!" Daphne laughed and rolled her eyes. She rarely talked to her neighbors, so she really forgot they even existed part of the time, so it was almost surprising to remember she had some. "Ah, well. They probably wouldn't think it was anything unusual, I was making a potion one day and Quimby spilled it because she didn't like the smell of it and it burnt a hole in my floor and the two floors beneath me, straight into the storage basement. I had a lot of explaining to come up with before the Obliviators got here," she said, laughing some more.

She plopped down on the couch and picked up their ice cream and spoons, handing him one and keeping the other. "Like them? Daffodils are my favorite. How'd you guess?" She figured it was an easy guess since Daphne and Daffodil were almost alike. That and because she went by that sometimes from a bloke she was dating back in school. "And by the way, you have no reason to be sorry. I left because I was stressed. It is really stressful planning a wedding in just a week. It's horrible."

Looking over at him, she gave a shrug, though laughed at the tragedy comment. As long as they could stay up here in their decent moods, things would be okay for some time. "Well, then lets dig in because I'm dying for some and I would hate to have you sneezing everywhere due to tragic events." Another laugh erupted as she stuck her spoon in the ice cream and held it in front of his mouth for him. Only fair, they needed to have some fun once in a while.

"Well, my sarcasm wasn't exactly helping, so I can definitely understand." he responded, offering a light shrug before steering clear of the topic. Now that they were both back on good terms with each other, he intended to keep it that way, which meant more thinking before blurting out the first thing that came to mind.

He hadn't been planning for an invite when he'd sent the two spoons, he'd simply meant to say that he wasn't going anywhere. They were in this together after all and he found it always tended to work out much better when they cooperated, but he'd been pleasantly surprised.

His eyebrow made a run for his hair line once more when she held up the spoonful of ice cream for him. There was a brief moment where he thought he'd say no, but he brushed it away and took the mouthful with a laugh. "Apparently, we only needed one spoon."

Daphne hardly cared, she had brushed it off her shoulder as if it were nothing and moved on. He could say whatever he wanted, after all they were really only together because they had to be. ... Right?

Either way, he was over an that was okay. A pleasant visit never hurt anyone and him being there wasn't so bad, after all. Like before, they needed to get used to each other. Plus, she was pretty bored at the time, so company wasn't so bad.

"Nah, you're on your own now, Potter. You were just lucky enough to get the first bite before I devoured this whole thing by myself," she said with a laugh, dipping her spoon in once more, this time for herself. Honestly, her relationship with ice cream was almost sick.

"Oh really?" he laughed, sneaking a bit of ice cream onto his own spoon and popping it into his own mouth and leaning back against the rather comfortable backing of her sofa. As long as it matched the cat...or whatever it was she was doing, he would have to ask her to keep it. It was much more comfortable then his own. "You'll have to do better than that."

"I do have a confession to make though." he grinned. "I didn't actually guess that white Daffodils were your favourite. I'm good, but I'm not that good. I actually owled your sister. She was helpful....if not a little hesitant." Though, he supposed a random owl from someone you never met before was cause to be hesitant. Either way he'd gotten the information and he was grateful.

Daphne really would inhale the whole tub of ice cream if she had the chance. It wasn't her bloody fault that it was so delicious. She couldn't help it! Ice cream was more of her boyfriend than anyone she had ever dated. It was the only thing that was ever really there for her. Sort of. "Oh yeah? What do you have in mind?" she asked with an amused grin, taking another bite of ice cream.

When she heard he owled her sister for the information on her flowers, Daphne scoffed. "You cheat!" she teased, hitting him with a pillow she had grabbed from beside her. "You're a nut," she said with a laugh, taking another bite. "I'm surprised she didn't tell you white lilies or something, just to ruin my day." Although she doubted she'd do that now that they sort of made up. Well, at least Asteria apologized to her. Plus, it had given them a chance to go get their wedding dresses.

"You'll see when the time comes." he smirked. He really had no plan, but if it came down to it he'd think of something just to amuse himself. He still wasn't a big fan of ice cream, but he was quite enjoying this particular encounter.

He could help but laugh when she hit him with one of the pillows from the couch. Getting a hold of it, he took it from her and set it out of reach. "I'm not a nut." he grinned. "I simply didn't want you to kill me for sending you something that you were allergic too. Pollen tends to be a popular allergy."

He had worried about that particular incident, but Daphne's sister hadn't mentioned anything of the sort so he'd taken her advice and gone with the daffodils. Although, he also hadn't thought that Asteria might tell him the wrong sort of flower. Perhaps he was just a little too trusting, but then again where was the fun in thinking that.

"Oh yeah?" She said with a smirk. Now she was curious and didn't want to be taken off guard. But on the other hand, she didn't mind being taken off guard every now and then. Hell, just getting along with him completely blew her off course and that was just fine by her. She narrowed her eyes playfully at him before laughing again and taking another bite of ice cream.

"Nope! No allergies!" she said, beaming slightly. She was probably as healthy as ever, and she had definitely never had a single allergy. "I'm as healthy as an ox. Or something less disgusting like a horse, however you want to look at it." She gave a shrug and smiled. "But they're nice, I really like them. Thank you."

All joking aside, he was surprising himself by actually enjoying spending time with her. When he'd first realized he was being forced into an arranged marriage with an ex-slytherin, his mind and immediately flown to Pansy and his hatred for the girl and Malfoy by default had immediately left him dreading the future. Now that he'd had a chance to actually meet her, he almost felt guilty for those thoughts. Daphne Greengrass certainly wasn't Pansy Parkinson.

"Well that makes it far easier for me." He grinned, spinning the spoon between his fingers as he let her enjoy her ice cream. He had bought it for her after all, it was only right that she enjoy it. "You'd be surprised how knowing that you won't actually kill your wife with a cashew or flowers let's a guy breathe easier."

He paused a moment in his twirling, to offer her a genuine smile with no hint of teasing. "I said you didn't have to thank me, but your welcome none the less."

No, Daphne definitely wasn't Pansy, and while they were close, even Daphne considering her to be her closest, they were completely different. While their views were the same, Daphne was much less judging than Pansy, not so openly ignorant and unhappy all of the time. She supposed it was because they had different backgrounds and Daphne's family being of older lineage, having a different point of view as the times changed and so did people. Daphne was one of a kind.

"Hey, are you done?" she asked curiously, taking another bite. Not because she wanted to finish it off, but more because she wanted to save it until later or another day or something. Just to get it out of the way and let them talk. Plus, she was getting goose bumps from eating it. "Well, it'll be pretty hard to kill me. From what I've heard, Greengrasses are untouchable."

She laughed and shrugged. She'd thank him all she wanted, it was her duty to do so, regardless of whether or not he wanted her to do so.

Whatever the reason for their difference, Harry couldn't be more grateful. At least this way, they had a chance of working everything out. Had he been the one paired up with Pansy, solitary confinement within the walls of Azkaban wouldn't have been enough to get him to agree to it.

Nodding, he held up his own spoon. "Yeah, I'm done." he added, with a smile and a light laugh, allowing her to pass him on her way to the kitchen. "That's good. I'm getting rather used to the idea of having you around." he shrugged, waiting for her to return.

Lately everyone, including Ron and Hermione, had been angry for him...for his situation, but he hadn't felt anywhere near that. Even before his meeting with Daphne, he'd merely accepted it. Sure it hadn't been what he wanted, but there just wasn't any fight in him about it. If this was going to be how it was then he was going to make the best of it.

Daphne took both spoons and closed the ice cream, bringing it to the kitchen to be chilled once more. Nothing wrong with savoring the worlds greatest ice cream. She'd want some before the wedding tomorrow, surely. Or at least after. If her parents allowed them to leave their house, that is.

"You're getting used to the idea of having me around?" she questioned, grinning as she walked back to the couch, settling into her spot once more. "I think you should be honoured to have me living with you. I'm the best there is," she teased, striking a pose. At times, yeah, Daphne truly believed that was true, but she also knew that there was better than her, though she didn't exactly like to admit defeat.

"But to be honest. I'm getting rather fond of having you around," she said softly. It was true. Perhaps it was because just working and living alone could get lonely now and then, but just having someone else in her life, for better or for worse, wasn't all that bad.

Harry sat up from his reclined position when she returned. It was rather difficult to have a conversation when one was staring at the ceiling. Usually, eye contact went along with talking. It seemed like the right thing to do after all.

"Well, if I'm buying you pumpkin flavoured ice cream, that pretty much guarantee's that your in." Harry responded, laughing when she posed. "The best, huh? That's funny, here I was thinking I was the best."

When she admitted that she didn't hate the idea of having him around, he felt a little self-imposed pressure lift from his shoulders. Bumping his shoulder against her's lightly, he smiled. "That's good...because my admission would have been rather awkward if you didn't."

After a moment, Harry felt the seriousness start to press back in and he couldn't help wondering if it would remain like this after tomorrow. Would it be that easy? Normally, if you wanted easy you got hard. "Tomorrow, huh?" he responded, letting out a breath. "Nervous?"

Daphne laughed, "Well then. Looks like I'm the lucky one," she said with a roll of her eyes and another laugh. "Only problem is, I'm a Greengrass, more importantly Daphne Greengrass. I made history, I'm the cream of the crop!"

When he bumped is shoulder into hers, Daphne smiled and looked over at him. "I didn't really have a choice. Then again, I don't know if I really wanted one." Now it was getting a little more serious and in the short time that Daphne had come to know Harry, she could easily admit that she liked him well enough to feel comfortable, or at least almost comfortable with their pending marriage.

Rolling her lips slightly as she thought while Harry spoke, she gave a slow nod. "Yeah, tomorrow." Was she nervous? A little. It was her dream to have a great wedding, and she was pretty sure she was stealing someone elses dream by marrying Harry Potter, but she wasn't so worried about that. She shrugged and looked over at him. "I'm not sure. Are you?" she asked curiously as she studied his face.

Was he nervous? He wasn't exactly sure if that was the right word to use, unfortunately it was going to have to do. He simply didn't know how else to describe it and he wasn't about to spend a whole lot of time trying to discover the perfect word.

"Yeah," he finally responded. "'Spouse' is a lot to live up to, you know. I think that's why I didn't really plan on every being that person. If you don't try you can't fail, though I suppose the pressure of making a good first impression adds to it. Meeting your family on the same day we're married is a bit ... intimidating."

Shaking off some of the nerves, he smiled. "You on the other hand, luck out. You'll only have to endure the Molly and Arthur, which you'll pass with flying colours." he admitted. "They'll like you simply because I'm willing to marry you."

"I think you'll be fine with my family. If anything, they'll just tell you to take good care of me and live up to your expectations. It really shouldn't be all that bad, Harry." She smiled reassuringly over at him. In less than twenty-four hours time they'd be married and have all sorts of expectations to live up to.

Leaning back against her couch, she sank into it slightly and groaned, "But what about the other Weasleys? I mean, obviously Ginny doesn't like me, Ron either, I'm sure. Aren't there like ... five older ones? I'm sure Ginny has told them all sorts of hateful things about me." Daphne rolled her head over and looked at him. "Parents I can do. Siblings I cannot."

"I certainly hope your right about that." he responded, following her lead and leaning back into the sofa. This time he didn't mind if he was looking up at the ceiling and was pretty sure that she didn't mind either. The conversation had sort of moved into territory that allowed for it.

When the conversation turned to the Weasley's Harry returned her glance. "It really won't be that bad, I promise." he responded, thinking about each of the Weasley's in turn. "Charlie and Bill...well, we're not really that close, so I don't see them being to concerned with who I marry. Percy...well, it takes a bit to get used to him. He's getting better, but he can still be a bit of a pompass git at times. George is great. He's a still a bit rough around the edges since Fred died, but when he lets himself have fun he's the best person to be around. As for Ron and Ginny, well, I think Ron's main issue will be that your a Slytherin and he's gotten to think that us Gryffindor's shouldn't have anything to do with then, but you haven't really given him a reason to hate you. He'll eventually come around and he won't do anything to you if I'm serious about this wedding."

He paused for a moment to think about Ginny. This was where it got complicated. "With Ginny...it's rather complicated. We have...somewhat of a history, so with her it's going to be a bit difficult, but I think with a bit of work, she'll come around."

She listened closely as he named off the other Weasley family members and noted them closely. She assumed unless her and Harry miraculously fell madly in love, she wouldn't have too too much to do with them other than Holidays or what have you, but it was good to make note of who was who. And when she heard of the death of Fred, which must have been one of the twins, she didn't quite recall, she frowned slightly. Death was a hard subject with Daphne, though she wasn't sure why, she was just always overly sympathetic towards it.

"I'm not worried about Ginny," she hissed slightly. Daphne had a way of getting out of or around almost any situation and dealing with some girl that dated her husband in the past wasn't going to be that big of a deal. "I won't have a problem with her unless you go running back into her arms." Daphne grinned when she said that, as it wasn't meant harshly, but more playfully to get out of this gloomy mood once more.

Despite knowing that it would be a hard sell to get Daphne and Ginny any closer together then they already were...which wasn't close at all, he still had the sense that things would work out. The Weasley's were really the only family he had. He had a difficult time believing that someone wouldn't like them, which would explain why he'd always been so hostile toward Malfoy whenever he insulted them.

He chuckled lightly at her comment, distracted from the hissed tone of her first comment. "Ginny and I are close, but I don't think you have to worry about that. We both have our own ... circumstances to deal with and a side romance isn't exactly something that can be penciled in. I'm afraid you're stuck with me for good."

Daphne smirked at his words and sighed contently. "And I'm afraid I might just want to be stuck with you for good," she said, biting the inside of her lip. This was all happening very quickly. What should have taken months took only a week to prepare, regardless of the amount of people invited.

Everything would work out, Daphne was pretty sure of that. Because really, what wouldn't work out? Daphne had resigned to this, Harry had resigned and the only person who was extraordinarily unhappy was Daphne's mother. Her brothers would get over it eventually, as they were brothers. And hell, maybe they'd even learn how to accept people for once. "We'll be fine."

Harry turned his head back toward her, a smirk showing clearly on his lips. "Have my ears deceived me?" he asked, his amusement showing through. "Daphne Greengrass, self proclaimed best being', who actually told me not to come anywhere near her, wants to be stuck with me? How ever did this come about?"

He knew, eventually that they'd reach fine, but until the wedding was over, he wouldn't be able to shake the nerves. It was just something that he was going to have to live with for a bit longer. "I hope so, though I do recall a certain superstition that stated the groom isn't suppose to see the bride the night before the wedding because it's bad luck." he responded, a light laugh escaping him. "Looks like we blew that tradition out of the water."

"Let it soak in, Potter. That might be the nicest thing you hear from me for a while," she joked, pulling her legs up underneath her to get more comfortable. "You're just lucky you're a decent bloke or I would have kicked you to the curb by now."

Daphne could easily understand where he was coming from. She was slightly nervous, but also excited. Who cared if they weren't madly in love with each other? They could create this whole interesting life. Well, maybe now she was just getting ahead of herself there. "Who needs superstition? We're stuck with each other regardless of tradition. I think any silly wedding day faux pa's are a little false by this time."

"I suppose a plus for superstition would be that it makes life a little more interesting, but I suppose in our situation, if life gets any more interesting we'd be dead." he responded, with a small shrug. "Two is probably all you'll get for the rest of our time together," she said with a grin, nudging him back. This was nice, just staying up and talking like this. She supposed with their work schedules and family life, after they were married, things wouldn't be so care free.

"I like interesting. It keeps me busy. Anything ordinary is just too boring." However, interesting was one thing, completely nutters was a totally different thing and thats what the Ministry had introduced with the marriage decree. Insanity. "I'll be happy once its all over and people can just stop bloody whining already. I did and it's gotten me thus far," she said with a grin as she looked at him.

Ultimately, Harry would have to agree with her. A nice combination of interesting and normal was what was needed. The crazyness that had been created by the Ministry of Magic, and a man Harry used to have complete faith in, was currently pulling him a bit thin. It didn't help that they both worked for the person who was making their personal lives more difficult then they needed to be.

"You know," he teased light, with a genuine smile. One that was being used more and more in Daphne's company. "If you continue like this, I might actually blush." It was nice to still have the easy air about them, despite the pressure, stress, and the rather...intimidating 24 hours that would be starting shortly.

"I don't think the complaining is going to stop. There's always going to be someone to complain. I think it's become so common place that the world seems a bit off balance when someone isn't complaining." Harry was quite for a moment, considering that, before he shrugged lightly. "Well, at least we can be two less complaining."

"Yeah?" She questioned with a soft grin. "Tell me what else I could say to make that happen." She stuck her tongue out playfully and laughed. She hadn't laughed or had any fun in anyones presence like this since she was in school. Needless to say, it was much needed. And the more time she spent with Harry, the easier it was to tell herself that they'd be fine in the long run.

"Well, screw them, then. We don't need to worry about anyone else but each other," she said with a nod. Daphne never really cared, nor worried about anyone else but her self, but now she had Harry to add into the equation. One more person wouldn't be too hard to deal with. And she was beginning to like him, after all.

The more they sat and talked, the more relaxed Harry was becoming and the more freely his words were formed. The comfortability of the couch only adding to relaxing him further. "I think I'll keep that as a relatively secret bit of information." he chuckled. "A guys got to have some secrets from his wife...otherwise that would be cruel. We feel left out when they're all knowing."

Harry had spent a lot of time in his early years caring what other people thought and it had never led him to anything good. There was a difference between considering someone's personal opinion or rights to have that opinion, but he no longer put much stock in most individuals, instead preferring to stick to those he knows. "I completely agree with you." he nodded. "Besides, they're not exactly worring about us."

"Oh no no no no! You don't keep secrets from your wife. She must know all or an affair will be assumed! Are you already having an affair, Harry? Is there another woman?" she joked, laughing as she rolled her head back slightly and stared at the ceiling.

"Do you think it will be weird to call me your wife when we're actually married? I mean, it's one word now, but tomorrow it'll be a completely different word." She looked over at him again, this time curious as she searched his eyes for an answer. "Ugh," she groaned, turning away and sitting up, rubbing her face gently with both hands. "This is still a lot."

Harry thought on her last question. He supposed it might be a bit awkward once they were married, but then again he doubted he'd really be thinking on it when he used the title. It was, after all, just a title. It could mean anything they wanted it to.

When she moved, it drew his attention back to her. "Hey, it's going to be fine, remember?" he responded, lightly. He couldn't say he wasn't nervous, but he could at least attempt to ease her nerves. "Besides, it'll really only be awkward if we make it awkward. It's all about what we want it to be. I know that sounds corny," he smiled lightly, "but it's prevented a freak out or two on my part."

It really was just a word, she supposed. It was a title she had wanted for so long, but probably under much different circumstances. Not that she was complaining anymore, she had a feeling her and Harry could be happy together in the long run and that's really what mattered in the end.

"It will be fine," she said, more to reassure herself than anyone else, really. She smiled slightly at what he said about the way it would turn out, being what they wanted it to be. "I want it to be so many things," she said softly, looking at him once more. "No matter who I'm marrying, I want it to be perfect. Or at least close to it."

Harry, for his part, hadn't thought about what he wanted from it. He hadn't allowed himself to focus on the big picture and more then likely wouldn't until the wedding was over. He didn't want to have any more nerves added to the already stressful situation, but it apparently meant something to her, which in turn made it mean something different for him.

"Wow...a little added pressure there," He teased lightly, hoping to ease some of the tension from their shoulders and the room, "but in all seriousness, I don't see why we can't at least attempt to make it perfect."

He wasn't sure what perfect was, but he was willing to give it a shot. What did he have to lose. The ministry had guaranteed that they were now in this together, why not see where it took them.

"Nah, no added pressure. You just have to show your pretty little face every now and again and it'll be good," she said with a laugh. Idly, she wondered if she should tell him that she finally went dress shopping. She didn't end up getting an ugly dress, but one that was actually rather flattering and almost like a dream for her. Hopefully he'd like it.

"Our wedding will be picture perfect. Mum made some pretty extravagant arrangements. We'll be married outside in the gardens and then the reception will be in our ballroom, with the new additions to the family invited to spend the weekend in the country if they so please. Father has scheduled all sorts of things, I'm just looking forward to the reception." Daphne laughed slightly. The second her and Harry got to dance, she was sure that would change a lot, but more importantly, there would be alcohol.

Harry smiled. "Well, I suppose I might be able to show my face every now and again, but I am flattered that you think it's pretty," he teased, "See you're closer to making me blush then you think."

Harry listened to her describe what she and her mother had arranged for their wedding. "A weekend in the country?" he asked, impressed. "Your parents didn't need to go all out, but that sounds really nice.

Harry wasn't much of a drinker, but he had a feeling he would be having his own fair share tomorrow. If nothing else, it would help him calm his nerves and perhaps it would allow her family to relax a bit and not hate him for breaking a line of Pureblood marriages.
