Just when my weekend was looking good. Figures.

[Jamie, Master Qui-Gon] I just found out Palpatine's here again. Only this one's a lot younger. I don't know when the kriff he became a Sith. I'm not taking any chances and not going to talk to him.

Oh, I found out Palpatine's here again. A younger one. I don't know if he's a Sith now or what. I'm going to avoid him.

I kinda forgot you were here for a minute and didn't put you in that filter.

Good idea, play on the safe side. Who knows when he became what he did.

Don't worry about it. We talk more than we post here to each other anyway. And I was gone awhile.

Yeah, gee, how'd you know?

I'm Mia, by the way. I don't think we ever introduced ourselves.

So you watched the movies, right? I figure you did if you know "Senator" Palpatine eventually becomes the Emperor and a Sith.

Get tortured to death by a Sith, and you usually figure out who's got the secret decoder ring.

I haven't yet, actually. Sort of sad the future had so much war in it.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Really. Just call me Mia. No lady.

You can tell who's going to become a Sith that early on?

It is, though from what I've heard of the current books they're releasing, there's been yet another galactic war or two. It's sick how our galaxy can't remain peaceful and sometimes makes me glad I'm here.

I was at the Acadamy on Malachor V for a while. I can kinda tell. Not always accurate - I mean, I didn't become a Sith - but it's a weird feeling I get.

Seriously? That's kind of depressing.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Thanks.

What was your name?

And what's the academy on Malachor V? At least we have you to peg any possible future Sith. I'm... I don't come across as the type to turn, right?

Yeah, it is. I think they even have Jacen Solo turning Sith, which is a load of crap. He's the nicest guy I've ever met.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

No problem.

I'm Atton Rand.

Oh, there was a Sith Academy on Malachor V for a while, before they blew up the planet. Like I said - not a Sith myself, so don't worry. Could've gone that way, I didn't. And nah, unless you're way more prideful than you come across.

And sometimes nice people will fall, just to save comrades. But comrades should try to help their allies.

Thank you. Now I know how what people go through trying to get me to introduce myself.

...Well.

That's what I've been afraid I'll do. Maybe... sometimes it's the nice ones who fall in order to do anything to save their loved ones. It's the trap Anakin/Vader fell into.

Eh, I could've realized names help the whole socializing thing move along.

Nah, I'm one of the good guys now. Dying to save someone pretty much ensures me a place with the Jedi. I think. I hope.

Loving your friends is passion, and they can twist that. They manipulate. Not that the Jedi Academy doesn't either, but that's just my opinion.

My cousin's always after me to have 'better manners', but I don't really care about those. It's just helpful to know who I'm writing this to.

I'm sure it does. I was talking more about if I'm prideful or not.

Right. What do you mean what the Jedi manipulate?

That's a good point.

I can't see it so far, but I don't really know you that well yet.

The Jedi Council preached "patience" at the beginning of the Mandalorian Wars. As someone who was watching all of my friends die, watching them fall from the atmosphere on fire - it sort of makes you wonder what they were thinking.

Yeah. Pride. I'll watch for that.

How is teaching patience manipulative? I'd think it's so you don't get angry and want to rush in and avenge your friend's deaths. It's hard to sit by and watch them suffer.

It was way past the point to continue teaching patience. Again, just a frontline soldier's opinion.

I can see what you mean.

And I can see why you could call what the Jedi do "manipulative" as well, though it has a much more peaceful and, I can't believe I'm about to use this word, harmonious outcome than the way the Sith try to manipulate. ...I'm still not sure I'd call the Jedi teachings manipulative, though I haven't been in training all that long. Like you said, loving friends is a passion, and a good one, but I don't see the Jedi twisting or even using that like the Sith do.

Well, that and I can only imagine that the Order changed after the Jedi Civil War. The person I learned from was actually exiled and told to never use the Force again. I can't imagine that kind of pain. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. They did it to preserve the "Order", to cover up for their mistakes during the war.

Maybe it's not the fault of every Jedi. Maybe it's just leaders, and groups that are messed up. But all I know is that during the Civil War, the average person just saw someone with a lightsaber that wasn't scare of reading thoughts and pushing to get what they wanted. I really hope that changed with time. I saw the Sith do things way more terrible than the Jedi, eventually. But still. I don't mind calling myself a Jedi, but I'd never be part of the Order, unless I saw actual change.

I almost forgot you're from... I don't know how long ago, but a really long time. The Jedi have probably changed a lot since then. I could probably do plenty of research here, strangely enough, even without a Jedi Academy or Temple.

The Jedi today aren't like that. I used to think they were, I was pretty prejudiced, until I got to know a few of them better. More like I was afraid of what they could do cause I couldn't defend against it. They aren't all perfect, but the ones here that I know, we don't go invading everyone's minds just cause we feel like it. I know what it's like on the other side of not being able to defend against it, and I promised myself I'd never forget it. I only enter someone's mind with permission unless there's a real emergency and someone's life is on the line, which hasn't happened yet. The Jedi are... supposed to defend the light, and people in general, and help and serve them.

I don't know if I'm really the person to talk about what the Jedi are like now. Master Qui-Gon's much better at explaining this stuff if you wanna talk to him. The Jedi now sound totally different from the ones you knew.

It's nice to hear that they've changed.

I think I'll wait for the person who trained, me, though. Wouldn't seem right to train without her.

Did I tell you I've got a ship? My friend that could still do timetraveling and stuff, he got me a small ship with cloaking abilities. If you ever get homesick for space, I can take you up sometime.

I have a lot of my friends and family here, but... there's some others I'd really miss. For instance, if we went home, I wouldn't have Master Qui-Gon anymore, as he's dead there.

Yeah, it's what keeps me sane here. I go up there to meditate sometimes cause it's so quiet. It's easier to meditate, too, cause it feels like home when I can look out the window and see stars.

I believe that Palpatine has always been a Sith, from even before he was a Senator from Tattooine. He chose to move up in the political landscape in order to use his evil to take over, which he did.

It is most wise to not talk to him, to not tempt yourself into anger. I am proud of your decision.

I usually step into trouble, but I'm careful with this.

Palpatine's the easy one to look out for. It's easy to avoid him cause he's so obvious. But what about things or situations that aren't so obvious that I don't avoid so well? What if... something happens and I'm turning and don't even realize it?

Oh Mia my child. All the work you've put into it and all the time you've spent making sure you'd learned the workings of the Force so that you wouldn't hurt anyone you loved has assured me that you won't turn to the Dark side.

And if you don't trust my assertion, and I understand why you wouldn't, you can be assured that even if you were tempted, I'd know about it. You are so open to me, if for any reason you started closing off and turning, I would be alerted. Not to mention that you would realize yourself what you were doing. It takes a conscious effort to turn. You won't just wake up one day and be a Sith.

Of all my Padawans, you and Obi-Wan are the two I worry least about.

Master Qui-Gon

I keep thinking about the trap Anakin fell into. That he thought it was worth going dark to save just one person. But by doing so, he ended up hurting her more than he would have if he'd stayed good. That's the thing, everything was blurred and he... well, he let himself be manipulated. If I didn't have the Force, I wouldn't have a problem getting angry, or comprimising morals to save someone I cared about. But that isn't the situation anymore. I think I've been really good at not relying on my temper and anger like I used to.

Yeah. It is a conscious choice, isn't it. I knew that. I know that. I don't know why I've been worrying again lately. Thinking too much. Jamie says I do that sometimes.

Thanks, Master Qui-Gon.
