I need to speak with someone who's fluent in biblical Aramaic. Now. I need to check myself.

Edited: [Locked to Raziel]: Aramaic with nikkudot? Really?

Am I correct in saying that Aramaic has no system of upticks or missing letters? I know Hebrew sometimes is written with nikkudot, to stand in for vowels, but Aramaic has nothing of that nature, or it did not during say, the time of the Old Testament's writing. Correct?

That's right.

I'm working on a puzzle, and I've got a string of letters here that looks Aramaic but there are upticks in between some letters. I didn't think I was going mad. I appreciate the confirmation.

I've never gotten so flaily and freaked out over a puzzle before, but okay. Glad to help.

Are you arguing my methods?

I'm both impressed with and irritated by your methods. I've never seen Aramaic with vowel ticks.

I got a string of words when I broke it all down, but with or without the ticks, they don't make sense. Obviously I've more steps ahead of me.

By the way ... I can't be too irritated, I'm so very happy for you.

Indeed you do, my friend. I'm proud of you. Your pedantic nature is finally useful.

I'm rather happy for myself. I do apologize for the redhead, though. He's gruff, but has a deeply kind and pure heart. There's a reason he was tapped for the job, Ariel, much for the same reasons you were.

He seems a sort that can be reasoned with, at the very least, and I daresay it's too much to hope for that whatever King of the Malebolge would never irritate me. I'm ... very glad this worked for you. And for Miss Ash.

That said, I begin to understand why you were certain only I could unlock this. Anyone who wasn't fluent in biblical Aramaic, Hebrew, Angelic, and likely other languages could spend a lifetime trying. After this I think I shall apply for a position as cryptologist at MI5.

You aren't the first one to find him offputting. I doubt he'll mind overmuch. I'm finally at ease, finally able to concentrate and return to my own former glory, before I start my task as daemon.

Ha! That would be a fine position for you. Just remember, it's not just in the words or letters, it is in all that you sense and all that you see. There is no method I thought up that I did not use in this endeavor.

I may genuinely do that; I've very much enjoyed the thrill of the chase, so far. Then again, Iku might have my hide if I took up any more of my free time.

The Wartooth does understand that there's nothing to be gained by being aggressive; I think we'll get along unless he becomes afflicted, somehow.

Then find a way to make cryptology a hobby, and get her involved as well. She's very bright.

You've not given him a reason to become aggressive. Consider him a Venus Fly Trap. He only clamps down when he is provoked.

I will remember that; it's quite an apt description of the man. Whatever.

It does rather worry me that you appear to understand Iku better than I do.

All I know is that she's clever and intelligent, there's not much more I DO know about her, other than she's inexplicably found herself utterly attracted to my pupil.

I was mostly teasing. Though there are times I do wonder what that woman is thinking.

At any rate. You've given me one valuable clue in speaking with me just now, so I should likely get back to work.

Go to, then. And tell me once you and your beloved find a flat. I will be happy to help you ward it.
