Olympic fever
Someone want to explain to me just how the fuck Vancouver got to host the Olympics?

I mean, Vancouver.

Really good poutine?

If that's all it takes for an Olympic bride, Montreal would've won. In a landslide. Or a landfill.

Ah. Well, can't guess right every time, I suppose. I've only been to Canada once aside from touring, which doesn't really count. A lifetime of debauchery has made it such that I can no longer remember what city I was in at the time.

Are you an actor?

No, I'm a musician. I did try acting once or twice once I got over being dead terrified of being on a stage or in front of a camera, but I wasn't really any good at it.

I knew a director, though. He was from Canada, he took me there. It was a long time ago.

Oh, god, was he a pretentious asshole named Darren?

Oh, have you met him??

Met him? He fought a duel in my living room.

Well, partly fought. Mostly he screamed like a little girl and whinged about it for days. And broke things.

What'd you do that for?

...Actually that sounds a bit like something I would do.

He was very nice. And I was very young. I met him after I lost my first boyfriend. Darren... sort of looked after me a bit, in his way. Ended up running off with Kit Marlowe, but who wouldn't have? I'd have shagged Marlowe too, if he'd let me.

I wasn't the one fighting the duel. It was my house and I was having a party. This was when we were rehearsing Hamlet.

Very nice? Are you sure we're talking about the same Darren?

Well, nice... in his way. Snappish and rather easily offended but he meant well. Well enough for me, at any rate. He was very helpful. [ooc: no, really.]

Of course, we might not be technically talking about the same Darren. I've jumped so many worlds and times I have no idea where my own is anymore.

The same Darren? There's more than one?

...

Jesus Christ.

Darren ... Nichols. Thin, brown hair, glasses, haughty mien?

It does rather seem that a place with more dependable snowfall might've been a better choice for a Winter Games.

Fuck the snow - have you been to Vancouver? Half the people are always bragging about how small their carbon footprint is, and the other half are junkies.

No, never have. I've been to Montreal and to St. John's, but never had a chance to explore any more of Canada. I'm English, so we have our own issues.

Oh, yes.

Well, I could tell you that Canada is the largest land mass, the first nation of hockey, and the best part of North America, but then I'd just sound like a beer commercial, and I don't do commercials.

Ellen Fanshaw.

Bela Winchester. I don't have any special love for the U.S., aside from the fact my husband's a Yank. Never had anything to complain about Canada, though.

Pot.

Promises to shower.

Not playing Phish anymore. That's what I'd want from a hippie.

I can see one hippie promising to do that and living up to it, but I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I just can't see enough hippies in Vancouver agreeing to do it at the same time for a bribe.

I can't build anything with water crackers, Geoffrey, so I need to find something to do.
