The following paper petition is circulating around Taunton and the greater London area.
Taunton College is the primary educational institute for young people with abilities. Nearly all school-aged children with special powers attend this school. Many of these students come from different worlds where their powers are common knowledge and special schools were created to cater exclusively to young people with their special needs. These schools, in addition to teaching students how to manage their abilities, provide a safe haven from outsiders who would otherwise threaten their well-being and create a hostile environment.
At Taunton, there have been multiple incidents of violence and harrassment against students with special abilities. Some of these have been reported, but others go without acknowledgement out of fear of retaliation. Students should have the right to attend school without being afraid. The school administration has a responsibility to keep their students safe, and currently this is not being fulfilled.
Schools such as Xavier's School for the Gifted, Hogwarts, and others create an environment where youngsters are able to excel without being tormented by their fellow students because they have powers that make them different.
While there are plenty of distinguished schools for the average human student in this world, Taunton remains the only school that caters to the needs of those with magic, powers, or other special abilities that do not fit into the 'average' picture of what it means to be human. Because of this exclusive status, Taunton has a responsibility to be a beacon of safety and academic excellence for it's unique student body.
We, the undersigned, propose that Taunton College, in the interest of creating a safe environment condusive to academic study, admit only those students who demonstrate superhuman abilities, magic or powers.
