Official Statement to the Press
Today, a certain minority of fans of Dethklok chose to express their enthusiasm about the new album's release in a tragic and unprecedented manner. This was not our intention. It is our wish to extend our deepest sympathies to the victims of these actions. Actions which we do not condone, endorse, or encourage in any way. These individuals are not affiliated with Dethklok or the company as a whole. They do not represent any of the band's members, employees, or any other entities associated with the company.
We urge the media and the press to view these acts as individual and random, and not a widespread epidemic. The music is not dangerous. It is created simply to be enjoyed, like all music. And as with anything created, there will always be a few who would perceive within it a message that simply does not exist, and take that to the extreme. With the internet these false ideas can be exchanged and mutated even further, made larger than it would seem to be possible.
We hope these matters are resolved quickly by the proper authorities, and that those few who have taken it upon themselves to act out in this way receive the help they need.
Locked to Dethklok and those employed by Dethklok Accidents within Mordhaus have taken a 5% jump today alone, with a fatality rate of +2%. I expect that not to decrease for the rest of today. Fan suicides are up 25%, successful homicides at +16%, other "acts of tribute" at a 45% increase across the board, and that's just what's come in confirmed as connected to the band. Sales are also at a record increase, moreso as the violence continues. There's a memo coming around with graphs and more specific information, for those that need it.
((OOC- Things are happening today, both inside and outside Mordhaus. A man drops a toaster in with him in the bath. He wrote "For Dethklok" in soap bubbles that become illegible before his body is found. A 40 year old substitute teacher vacationing in France listened to "Bloodlines" on her iPod as she jumped from the top of the Eiffel Tower. A Girl Scout Troop in Kentucky on their way to the ice rink being driven by one of the girls' older sisters decided after hearing "Murmaider II" for the first time to stop first at a gun exhibition. They stock up on weapons and hold the ice rink hostage.
Some fans have far less violent reactions- they just stay home from their jobs or school and thrash around in their living room playing air guitar. Some fans function as normal. Many people lose their jobs, their lives, or wind up in jail. Riots. Chaos. So on. TODAY ONLY, ONE TIME SPECIAL, HURRY ON DOWN.
And 359? Has set fire to a good part of California. It was already burning from wildfires, but the area has greatly increased. Arson is suspected, but nothing can be proven, nor can it be proven as connected to the rest of the Dethklok-related violence.))
