I'm not a computer, but I know the date. It's 2009, May the 18th, if I'm not terribly mistaken or on the opposite side of the international date line from you.

My name is Stefan Salvatore, and I've been displaced in time as well, it happens to most of us who arrive here from what I've been told.

2009? That's not right.

Where's here?

I don't know about how right it is, but it is the current year.

And here is ... Earth, for all intents and purposes, but not at all like the one I come from.

Or the one I come from, apparently.

Did you happen to see a big ship, something along the lines of a space-faring... anything?

Not recently, and never in person.

There's a website [here] with a better explanation. It's quite bright, if you have sunglasses I'd suggest wearing them.

An elaborate hoax?

I thought so too, at first, honestly I'm still not entirely convinced that it isn't, but I've seen nothing yet to fully convince me that it is, and most things don't try to convince me that it isn't, they just are.

They just are. I'm two hundred and fifty years in the past because of Scotty's transporter? I heard about that beagle.

Two hundred... Ah. I can't say that it's going to be any consolation, but this is real. You aren't where you were a few minutes ago, not in time and not in space.

And everyone else?

Most people are displaced the same as you and I, got here the same way too, through the vortex.

The vortex?

The storm that brought you here. You may have thought it was something else, I did. I suspect others do too, but it was ... I realize this is going to sound strange, but do you know the story of Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz?

Not sure. Something having to do with a transporter gone wrong. Know anything about it?

Not a transporter. Interdimensional vortex. Happens to everyone, or at least everyone who encounters holes in time-space and decides to poke them to see what they do.

The Enterprise encountered a black hole that had time traveling abilities.

This is not that, though? Who are you?

Enterprise eeeeeeee

Jason Todd. Writer, reporter, superhero, et cetera. And you're Lieutenant Uhura, communications officer of the Federation starship USS Enterprise NCC 1701.

There's a [website] that explains the nature of the universe and how I know that, but long story short, this universe is a composite of several different universes, and in my home universe, your adventures were a fictional television program. In other universes, I was a fictional character in a comic book.

Mr. Todd, a pleasure.

But a fictional television program? That's how you got your knowledge about me? I mean, you seem to know a lot, I'll give you that, but... really?

I used to write for the New York Times, but I've been freelancing for a while now.

The powers are shapeshifting, super strength, stamina, increased healing, and fluency in every language that ever was or ever will be. Which doesn't get a lot of use, because being able to decline a Klingon noun doesn't really come up in the realm of crime solving.
