Catchup
It seems that not only have the Inspector and I suffered this odd universal displacement, it just so happens that we've been advanced forward approximately twelve years from our current time.

I don't suppose that anybody here could assist me with filling in the pertinent historical gaps in those twelve years that we appear to be missing? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you kindly.

I must confess it's somewhat of a relief to know that I am not singular in this regard.

- I had noted while wandering the streets of London that such devices had significantly decreased in size, though I had no inkling that their method of use had become so widespread and diverse. Personally I've found that nature provides its own, intensely reliable methods of accomplishing anything worthwhile, including relative positioning, without being entirely reliant on batteries; but I'm fully aware that I am not like most people, and have no use for such things.

- I'm not certain what you mean by 'worth dick.'

- I see.

- I'm afraid I have no idea who that is, but I will endeavour to rectify that.

- I likewise have absolutely no idea what 'Transformers' are, though I will gladly take your word for it that its remake is superlative.

- Ah. Who precisely is at war with whom?

Yeah, the phones are fuckin' tiny and everyone's got one. Technology improves at an exponential rate.

I mean it's not worth anything. The value of money tanked, and the economy is screwed, unless you're Chinese. Then you're doing awesome.

...Read the Bible, he's in there. I'm not kidding, he walks among us and he's the President.

Transformers... Are robots. In disguise. How can you not know that?

Some Middle East shit, like it always is. Israel vs. Palestine, USA vs. Iraq, USA vs. Afghanistan. Jerusalem, oil, and the war on terrorism.

"Transformers... Are robots. In disguise."

Ok, now I'm laughing.

Pretty straightforward stuff, am I right?

The Greek goddess knows what I'm talking about, but the Canadian mountie does not. That's kinda fucked up.

I'd think you're right, but apparently, not so much... Personally, I'm finding this whole conversation you're having amusing. Fucked up or not.

I'm so tempted to ask if he wants to know if there's property damage from the transformers or the war, but watching you talk to him is funnier.

I find it pretty amusing too.

No, he used bullet points so I'm definitely sure he's asking if the giant Transforming robots inflict property damage when they fight. I think he's missing that that's the whole point.

I'm not certain why my enquiries are amusing. Am I missing something?

And I was; though I was under the impression that when fighting is involved, both sides are attempting to win for whatever reason, and property damage is a side effect of that attempt to do so, rather than a direct aim of the exchange. Though that has been known to be a major component of war.

Dude.

They're giant robots that turn into things like lions and mack trucks... and you're worried about the property damage?

Let's just say there's More than meets the eye.

Well, to be more accurate, as a member of the RCMP, I'm primarily concerned about the collateral damage and casualties that would result from such a conflict.

I'm pretty sure they leave Canada alone.

I think Beast Wars got outsourced to Canada for either the voice acting or the animation. I remember Canada being in the credits somewhere.

So no, not even Canada is safe.

It's a cartoon and you're worried about the little cartoon people and their cartoon houses and businesses. That's extremely funny.

I kinda thought you at least got that it was fictional when I said it was a remake.

But man, if cartoon property damage disturbed you, you would freak when you saw the live-action remake. See it anyway. Youtube it.

- Apparently so.

- Ah. And no, I'm Canadian.

- ... I see. I have in fact read the Bible, but I was under the impression that one had to be a natural-born American citizen in order to be elected to the Presidential office of the U.S., and according to what I know, which seems to be increasingly little at this point in time, Jesus was originally born in an entirely different country. Has that specification changed?

- It seems there's a great deal that I don't know, though my upbringing was somewhat isolated, which may account for my lack of familiarity. Although, if I may ask-- if they're in disguise, how does one know they're robots?

- I don't recall the U.S. being located in the Middle East ...

Nah the technicality is that he replaced the guy who was already going to be the Prez, so that little detail of being born 2,000 years ago in another country doesn't count. If you replace somebody, you get dibs on their life.

You know they're robots when they transform. Hence, "Transformers." They change from their disguises: eighteen-wheelers, helicopters, fighter jets, sometimes dinosaurs, cheetahs and scorpions depending on the series, into huge freakin' robots. That fight other transforming robots.

No no no, the US is having conflict with the Middle East... They came over here and blew up some buildings in '01 so we went over there to try to stomp out the terrorist faction that did it, but apparently we couldn't find 'em so we started stomping Iraq to cover up the fact that we were failing at the first one. Then Israel and the Palestinians began to beat the crap out of each other while we were busy. See, it's complicated, which is why I just said "There's war," but no, you needed an essay.

- Ah, I see. So one's nationality of origin has no apparent bearing on the profession or career of the individual replaced. That does have some significant and reassuring logic. Thank you.

- Oh. I don't suppose there's a reason for their ongoing conflict? Is this something that occurs frequently, and in many places? Does it incur a great deal of property damage?

- I often find that brevity omits a great deal of potentially useful information. I thank you kindly once more for your time as a result.

As fucked up as this place is, it does often have logic.

There's two factions: Autobots and Decepticons. They travel to Earth and duke it out over resources. And uh, yeah. There is property damage. Lots of explosions.

You're welcome, I guess.

Has nobody attempted to reconcile these factions' differences? It seems as though conflict on that scale would cause a great deal of unnecessary casualties.
