[Lulu:] We're sorry for running off the other night. Jasper especially. We hope it wasn't too much trouble for you...

It was fine. How are you? I'm sorry for putting you in that situation.

I'm fine. Robin's always fine.

I... really am sorry, for... Look, there are things I suppose they deserve to know that I can't talk about.

I'm glad you're both okay. And Jasper, it's fine. Don't worry about it.

Could you tell me? I can tell them for you.

With all respect, my lady... no. I can't. Even if I wanted to. Robin could, but I think...

I don't know. I'll ask Robin. He can decide what's right to do.

Don't let anyone decide your fate. I knew someone who did that and it almost killed her.

It may be difficult to understand, because I can't explain everything, but he is my fate right now, Lulu. We've got no one and nowhere else, and haven't for a long time.

It sounds very much like something your sire told me once.

I'm sorry, Jasper. I'm sorry you feel that way and I'm sorry that it's your fate. But you two can count me as your friend.

If Robin's my fate, I'm not sorry. I love him. I might have chosen other things, if it'd been up to me to choose, but not without him. Never without him.

And we are grateful for your friendship. It's a rare thing, where we come from.

What did Carrick tell you?

2008-12-03 12:44 am UTC (link)
I think I know how that feels, to a certain extent.

You're welcome. It's freely given, even though friendship is very much the same way where I'm from.

... that the fate of your world is dependent upon you two. As it was upon him and Pinion.

I didn't get many specifics, but you're very important, you and Robin both. It's very important in good and bad ways you found him.

And it sounds JUST like the kind of line an estranged relative would try to spoonfeed a supposedly naive member of the younger generation in order to gain their trust and challenge their curiousity and courage.

Sorry, my lady. You can tell him Robin and I graduated from those kinds of bedtime-stories a decade ago.

I would agree with you if they wanted anything from you. They don't want coin, or even affection.

I suppose I'm biased because I consider them friends. I'll tell them to seek out some sort of proof, because you're skeptical. Will that be fair?

[info]sonsofthetower
2008-12-03 01:44 am UTC (link)
It's your time, not ours. Though even if he does manage to drum up some kind of proof, I'd love to know what he expects us to do about it. We're not exactly in a position to change our world at the moment. Not that we necessarily WOULD. The world hasn't shown us much to demonstrate itself to be worth saving. Or damning.

I spent my life protecting people as they attempted to complete a pilgrimage that would prepare them to sacrifice their lives that would ensure my home a decade of peace. Sometimes less.

How nice.

Well, the next time we spot any Heroes, we'll send them your way. Unless they get eaten by trolls first, or disembowelled by bandits, or hung by Dunmer missionaries, or drown themselves. All that self-sacrifice doesn't usually do much to improve overall life expectancy.

The fact that you don't understand or appreciate Heroes or Heroism is not the issue at hand.

I'll speak with your Sires and let you know if they find proof of what they say is your birthright.

He is, in the way that I mean I'm reading aloud to him and he's trying to ignore me because he's a big sourpuss.

What are you sorry for?

[info]ultimafury

Upsetting him. We have divergent ideas of what's worth living for, but that's none of my business.

[info]sonsofthetower
2008-12-03 02:16 am UTC (link)
Oh, no, don't worry about that. He's almost always sort of upset about something. And he's actually quite heroic, in his own way. He just thinks his sire is full of troll droppings. Honestly, I agree. I do like Carrick. I really do. But if he said that to you? It just smells like so much moon sugar to me.

[info]ultimafury

I actually trust him. I don't know why, but I do. And I absolutely trust Pinion. If Pinion didn't refute it, I know it to be true. I don't think lying is something he'd engage in without something gained.

I worry about him.

Nobody can find him. Not his girlfriend, nor any of his other associates know where he is. Carrick doesn't know. It's... I worry.

[info]ultimafury

He found out the women he loved died. I don't think he took it very well, to say the least. And yes, when Carrick doesn't know where Pinion is, it's like you not knowing where Jasper is.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]sonsofthetower
2008-12-03 02:37 am UTC (link)
...I would be scared he was off trying to kill himself or someone else in really disturbing and creative ways. Or just that he was lost and couldn't find his way. He's really bad at directions, which is a little funny because his dad was a Scout.

I wish I could help, but I really don't know him at all. I couldn't start to guess where to look. I don't really get Bosmer, they're all pretty inexplicable to me.

I grew up living in a tent, and as I grew older I journeyed around my homeland with others on a pilgrimage. Permanent houses weren't something I ever used. It was practical, considering how frequently we had to rebuild things.

Hey neat! Me too! I didn't live in a house until Jasper's mom and dad adopted me when I was 8. Before that my real mom and I lived in the forest and stuff. Cities outside Elsweyr aren't made to welcome about half the subspecies of Khajiit there are. Living in cities or towns would just have freaked people out, and been uncomfortable for her.

Sometimes I miss the sound of the sea while I sleep, but I'm close enough where Skwisgaar and I can go visit.

I've never been to the sea. I don't really miss anywhere. I kind of like everywhere as long as it isn't cold and wet. I guess I miss living with Jasper's parents, they were really nice. Stuff's changed a lot since then, though. I don't think we'd still be with them now even if they hadn't gone away.

I love the sea. I lived in the tropics, so it was warm and wet.

I'm sorry you didn't have much of a family. I was five or six when my parents died. I remember them a little.

I had plenty of family! Just not for as long as some other people do. That's okay, though. I've got my little brother to look after.

...well, not literally little. But you know. I'd rather us two stand on our own than be treated as a child.

I suppose I had my family as well, even though none of it was by blood. I had Yuna, Wakka, and Kimarhi (though telling a Ronso, even the smallest of the tribe that I'm his sister might have ended in something amusing). Eventually I had Rikku as well, and possibly even Sir Auron in his way.
