WHO: Carly and Jeremiah
WHERE: The jungle
WHEN: June 19, 2014; morning [forward-dated]
WHAT: A hunting/foraging trip gone wrong. Fiery zombies, ahoy!
As concerned as she was that the Stones were separated again, Carly couldn’t bring herself to go and show actual support for Cassie. Cowardly, that’s what it was. There was no getting around it. She was trying to rationalize her distance, though. Granted, it didn’t make her feel any better about neglecting a distressed Cassie, but what obligation did she have to her ex-girlfriend, anyway? None. None. Completely untrue, of course. The only reason Carly was avoiding Cassie was because of her family. Specifically the male member of the family who wasn’t currently lost somewhere in the jungle. Brandon Stone wasn’t the only intimidating force on the island. Frankly, he didn’t even compare to most of the security staff. But he was, simply, her ex’s brother. That was neither here nor there now. With the food stockage becoming smaller and smaller, hunting and foraging was becoming a more common thing. Carly wasn’t much of a hunter, nor did she condone it for sport, but with desperate times came the philosophy of survival of the fittest. People would starve without food. So, she found herself on a trip with Jeremiah. As they wound their way through the jungle, Carly couldn’t help but scour the treeline, on the off chance that Cassie’s sister and the surly brunette were out here somewhere. Too many people had gotten lost in the jungle… Too many hadn’t come back. For Cassie’s sake, Carly hoped for the best. “I hope you know how to lead us back,” she said quietly, a teasing note in her voice. “I’m not that great at tracking.” And without a clear view of the direction of the sun, she wasn’t all that sure she knew which way to head. Following a distinctive path was one thing, but there was nothing but brambles and branches here. Carly was trying to keep a list of natural landmarks in her head, on the off chance that she and Jeremiah got separated. |
