The answer failed to put his doubts at ease. If Ren hadn’t showed her how to get in, that meant the girl found a way herself. A breach in his security. Which meant he would have to go back through and rig up an entirely different system. It had only been a matter of time before someone found a loophole. The someone being a kid made it worse.
Mason clenched his empty fist at his side when she didn’t obey. It pissed him off. Almost every single one of his cousin’s mates thought they could get a free pass with him just because of Ren. He didn’t like the loss of control or losing his ability to make people listen to him. There was a line he refused to cross; he wouldn’t put a bullet in any of these young people, but neither was he willing to let them walk all over him and invade his fucking safe haven.
He made a mental note to speed up the process of shoring up the shop next door. Then Ren could socialize all she wanted. The project was nearly finished, anyway. All he needed to do was board up the upstairs windows and put a better lock on the rooftop door.
Though the girl may have only been curious, he took her tone as mocking. Daring him to do what she knew he wouldn’t. Rather than answer with words, the man walked up to her and grabbed her by the upper arm, dragging her away from the trap. She already knew how the traps around the upstairs window worked, he’d be damned if he let her stay and study the rest of the ways she could break in. He took her into the back room and pushed her towards the stairs.
“Get the fuck out!” He said through gritted teeth.
