The other man’s response got a chuckle out of Nate. In truth before Louisa had come along he hadn’t exactly viewed himself as the ‘kid type’ either. Four younger siblings had sort of made him think he never wanted kids….but then Emma had gotten pregnant and Louisa had entered this world and his whole opinion had changed. “Don’t take a offense to this, but you sound like my ex,” Nate was fairly certain that she had said both those things when she had left. At the time he had been pissed with her, but now he realized that Louisa and himself were probably better off with her owning up to the fact that she couldn’t deal with a kid and a stable relationship. “You know it’s better to own up to those things, saves people a lot of fucking heartbreak.” He added, as if he felt like he needed to make sure the other man wasn’t judging him.
Why it was he didn’t want to offend a stranger was another thing entirely. Wasn’t like he’d see this guy or anyone else on this island ever again.
“Is anyone?” Nate replied with a laugh of his own. “Well, I mean, I guess those weird doomsday preppers probably are.” Those people just creeped the fuck out of him though. Who actually plans for an apocalypse or some shit like that?
Nate shook his head. “You just spoke like you were more local than just a vacationer,” he replied with a shrug. A good natured looked crossed his features when the other man told him not to pass that information along. “Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me.”
He was in no rush to go back into the building, so when the other man didn’t make to leave, Nate settled in as well. “Want to write one yourself and tack my name on it?” He was joking, sort of. Nate could understand trying to combat something like poor poor employee reviews - lord knows he’d had more than his fair share of sit downs with his superiors back when he had been heavily drinking.
