Nate offered an apologetic smile. “Sorry man,” he began. “Just happen to be in my own thoughts. Not usually the philosophical type.” But when so much time spent with his family, it would seem he was having a tendency to look inward a hell of a lot more lately. “That would have just been a waste of time,” Nate replied. “So glad I could save you the effort.”
Even Nate could admit that the peaceful nature of the island at night and the cool breeze was calming. Later maybe he would bring Louisa out to watch the sunset, she seemed to like that. Granted that was if he could pull her away from Heidi or Adelaide, and if not, well, he’d just drag his sisters along with them. This place probably got sweltering in the summer time, which was exactly why Nate had chosen this time of year to come, meant they wouldn’t have to hermit themselves away inside to soak up A/C and miss out on their vacation.
“Boston,” Nate answered, glancing over at his new companion. The other man was shorter than he was, but still looked like he was formidable in a fight. “You don’t sound local, so where are you from?” Or maybe he was a local who had lost his accent a long time ago. But Nate was betting on him being from the States somewhere. “Yeah, drug here by my kid sisters.” And his brothers, though he had a feeling they had been drug here like he had been.
Silence wasn’t something that Nate feared, but conversation was also a welcome distraction. It kept him out of his head, and kept him distracted from other activities he could be doing right now. Ones that he knew he would likely lately regret.
“You think if I was on my honeymoon I’d be standing on this balcony with you?” Nate replied with a laugh. “And it seemed you answered your own question. So I’m going to assume you work here?” He didn’t seem like another tourist, seemed to comfortable with the place to just be visiting.
