Though it seemed like the hotel was always busy, always moving as one crisis ending seemed to lead straight into another, the drama was skipping over her family for once. Which was perfectly fine with Deb, there were no complaints about returning to normal - or as normal as they'd managed to get lately. Her brush with death the previous month had softened her edges just a little more, made her just a little more appreciative of what she had. Which also meant, to some degree, that it had made her more susceptible to Lily's wants. At least the ones that weren't completely impossible or totally deranged (because even a somewhat sensible eight year old didn't always understand that some things were just terrible ideas, even without zombies running around the island being a factor). Hanging out at the hotel more often, especially when some of the time was actually spent learning, was an easy request. Certainly made more sense to visit with friends and socialize than it did for the two of them to hide out in the RV while Travis came out to check in at the infirmary and see if anyone needed help. Today happened to be a learning day, which meant a group of kids was crowded around the perky blonde and her timid boyfriend for whatever lesson it was they'd decided to teach today. Sometimes Deb listened it, more often though she spent the time with one of her friends or even helping out with some project around the hotel. Neither of them seemed to be around their usual haunts though, and really she just didn't have the patience to deal with whatever other volunteer she was likely to get stuck with, so she'd plopped down on the floor on the opposite side of the room from the kids to wait. A few words drifted toward her, occasionally Lily would look over her shoulder and grin, but for the most part her presence was ignored. It made her wish she'd brought a book. Or could just nap where ever she happened to be sitting, at least. |
