It was predictable the places that most people could find Wyatt. If he wasn’t at the resort he was at the marina. Creature of habit some people would probably call him. He kept himself holed up with the boats more than Jere did lately; he had less when it came other responsibilities, and it would be both pathetic and suspicious to follow Kendall around like a lost puppy.
Speaking of dogs, he heard Deb and her entourage before Deb even called to get his attention, but he was elbow deep in engine parts and covered in motor oil, so he stayed put Lily knew the space well enough to know what her dog could and couldn’t get into and Deb would probably keep an eye on both of them. Didn’t stop him from the random concern of dog pee getting on something he didn’t want it on, but he’d cross that bridge if he had to.
“Over here,” Wyatt hollered back and raised an arm up above his head. He wasn’t really hidden, and probably would’ve been found easily enough, since he could see Deb from where he was. “You aiming to kill my calm in here?” He left his other questions unsaid. As far as he knew Kendall hadn’t said a thing to Deb about them, so he didn’t think he was going to get the third degree, he knew they’d gotten into it about a month ago but didn’t know the details. They were talking again though, he thought. “You’re not conning me into baby-sitting, are you?” It had been done before, even if he maintained he was a bad babysitter.
Grabbing a rag off the work table, he tried to scrub off as much of the oil as he could, but still left smears up his forearms, he was just going to go back to the engine later though so he left them there before moved across the shop and closer to Deb. He leaned himself against the boat that was sitting in the middle of the shop.
“What gives? I never see your face out here anymore.” He wasn’t going to cop to avoiding her though, because that hadn’t been on purpose. It was just easier to keep shit to himself when he didn’t have to face her. There were less than a handful of people that could dig stuff out of him and Deb was one of them.
