Landing on the island had not been close to what he'd expected. For one, even landing the plane had taken a miracle. There was some kind of advisory, and even after he'd specified that they were a rescue plane, they'd been warned that they might not be able to leave when they landed. That was a red flag, but so tunnel visioned was Cameron in his determination to find his sister that he didn't care. Even the pilot he'd hired was insisting that they turn around, but Cameron offered to double what he was paid—even if it meant taking out a loan that he'd never be able to repay when he got home. He needed to find Maddie. Period. Full stop. But when the plane had stopped and they got off, whatever he'd been expecting was not what he got. The plane was immediately impounded. They were told to immediately head to where they needed to go, and not leave. It was hardly the response he'd expected, and while it raised even more red flags, Cameron had someplace he needed to be. Someone he needed to find. And nothing, not even logic and the fact that he was damning a crew of five who came along with him, was going to keep him from her. The longer he spent here, though, the more he realized that something was very, very wrong. It was like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider had a baby and it vomited all over the island. No one in the jeep spoke a word on the ride to the resort. He kept getting dagger-filled looks from the people he'd asked to help, but he didn't care. If there was anyone in the world who wouldn't do this exact same thing for someone they loved, Cameron wanted to meet them, so he could punch them in the face. Or just give them his own dagger-filled look. Looking around as the jeep stopped, Cameron gathered his two suitcases and Creeper's leash, and beckoned for the dog to come along with him, as he made his way into the front hall of the resort. How did people usually go about this? He turned to ask one of his crew, to see that they'd already dispersed. Well that was great. What now? Should he knock on doors and ask people? It'd probably be better with a picture, too. "And that's probably something you should have thought of before you put a crew together and hit the road, isn't it Cameron?" he asked himself. Scratching the back of his head, he put his bags down and reached a hand into his pocket to get his wallet. "I guess I can go door to door," he said, filing through for a picture of his sister. |
