WHO: Dovie and Celia
WHERE: Outside the hotel, near the jungle.
WHEN: December 26th, 2014; afternoon
WHAT: Dovie and Celia have a run in. The latter attempts to lure Dovie into the jungle to become the next guinea pig for the lab experiments.
Christmas was over, yet somehow it hadn’t felt much like the holiday to begin with. At least not to a Minnesota girl. Christmas was suppose to come with three feet of snow and sub-zero temperatures. Not sunshine, sand and temperatures warm enough to sit outside in a t-shirt in. There was still a bittersweet aspect to the holiday having come and gone. It meant another year was passing, and back home their families had all celebrated without them - or had their own bittersweet celebrations due to their absence. Dovie knew that the few families that were here together had celebrated in their own way, but they were the minority. Parties had happened and she had even gone to one of them. But that didn’t replace sitting around a burning fire, while three feet of snow blanketed everything outside and her three brothers argued over god knows what. Dovie almost wished she knew what the topic of the argument might have been this year - or maybe they hadn’t argued at all, but instead sat around solemnly mourning the absence of their sister. “They probably fought over whether or not I’m dead,” she murmured to herself, having realized awhile ago that she was the only soul seated outside near the pool. So it wasn’t like anyone could assume she was crazy...though could anyone really blame her for talking to herself? Dovie had almost gone as far as to put on a bathing suit and sun bath near the pool, after all this was a vacation, right? But she hadn’t been able to locate her suit or sunblock, though it was mostly the sunblock that had stopped her. Living on a zombie island was one thing, but living on a zombie island with a sunburn seemed like a new circle of hell she just didn’t want to attempt to endure. “Oh! Maybe they argued over who would get my presents?” Dovie continued, snapping back to her thoughts of her family and what their Christmas might have consisted of. The idea that they may have had gifts for her wasn’t entirely insane - her mother practically starts shopping for the next year before the current year is even through. “I swear if they divvied them up I’m going to kill them.” The threat was only half-hearted, she wouldn’t kill them, she’d simply make them replace the items. Shifting on the lawn chair, Dovie glanced up from the book she had been half-heartedly reading before her one person conversation had started. Startled for only a moment to realize that someone was standing off towards the other side of the pool, closer to the jungle. “Merry Christmas, or day after Christmas I guess,” the redhead called out, giving the other woman a little wave and a smile. “Hope my talking isn’t bothering you.” Dovie was unaware of how long the woman may have been there, so she thought it only polite to add that last part. |
