[woo, code fail XD]
This was a right mess she’d gotten herself into. None of them were asking any leading questions, yet she had a sinking feeling they didn’t quite believe what she told them. Everything screamed coverup. But this was her story and she wasn’t going to admit to any guilt whatsoever.
The medic hadn’t specifically given her any instructions, to which she was perfectly fine not assisting. Saving the woman’s life was hardly on her list of priorities. Rather than be offended, she played the part and shrugged it off as being too inexperienced to help the good doctor.
Celia reached for the carabiner clip on her belt and unhooked her small LED flashlight. “I have this one.” She handed over the light. “Found fresh batteries for it, should be good to go.”
“Move her? Is that a good id--” She bit off her sentence. Who was she to question the man who was more qualified at saving lives? A quick change of tactic. “Should she be moved? I feel that might cause more damage than good.” Not only that, but being surrounded by more people questioning what happened absolutely would not end well for her.
Shit, shit. They really were going to move Higgins to the resort, weren’t they? Celia got to her feet, stumbling only slightly and catching herself when the pins and needles in her calves protested the sudden movement. Rubbing the dried blood from her hands onto her jeans, it didn’t take much effort for her to look ruffled. Concern for the dying woman, obviously, and what effects moving her would cause.
She didn’t instantly register that the medic was addressing her again. A bit of hair had gotten lodged behind her glasses and she reached up to carefully move it out of the way. “A couple younger brothers. Teenagers.” At least they were old enough to take care of themselves - even if she did feel some remorse for taking their sister away. “May be more, but I didn’t know this woman well.”
“One of the native villages is close by. If you only need a more comfortable place to put her.” The suggestion was innocent enough. Why carry the dying woman all the way back to the resort, when they could shelter her in a hut instead? It might work at convincing the group, as long as it wasn’t a matter of needing more medical supplies.
