"Flexible and adventurous,” Renata mused out loud. “I could work with that.” It wasn’t really flirting, he’d just left an opening and she was going to run with it. “You’ll need to do better than insulting me, if you want a try at getting in my pants, mate.” And maybe she wanted to see how far he’d actually take it. Her money was on ‘not far’ but maybe he’d surprise her.
She laughed. “And it’s all about the story, isn’t it?” she asked rhetorically. Grateful that at least if she wasn’t big she could actually be sneaky. Some of the rest of her group definitely weren’t, but she hadn’t made it through the ordeal with Basso by being unskilled at everything. Being sneaky had kept her alive. That, and the other women that had been abducted. But she shook all that out of her head, because it wasn’t worth the time or energy to focus on, otherwise she’d get sucked down that black hole.
“That’s ‘cause you lot are easy to manipulate,” she sassed cheekily.
Risking it didn’t seem that smart, not before she got a chance to seriously try and find Mason. “I’m a little afraid of them though.” Renata wasn’t actually sure why she admitted that to a stranger. But it was out of her mouth now. “You might be some badass zombie killer, but I’m not.” Which is why the stiff needed to stay behind the door, trapped.
And she hoped he got off the floor before she started walking. It was bad enough that if she led he’d probably be watching her ass the whole way down the hall.
She also wasn’t going to take a step back, even if the angle they were at now made it hard to look up at him. He was as tall as she thought he looked. “You have no idea.” she winked. It would have been just as easy to explain growing up with a brother and two male cousins, but why would it matter to him? Though he looked just the vaguest bit familiar the longer she stood looking at him.
“I’m not rummaging through flats on my own.” And it wasn’t likely that any of her group would come up to scavenge, even though that’s what they had come into Haven to do. Apparently they were all looking for the sure bet building. “I can live without whatever might be in there.” It took a concentrated effort to pull her eyes away from the rattling door. Seemed like the noise they were making was riling the thing up.
Her own pace was faster than usual, to try to keep up with him, so even though he’d been moving quickly she was only a couple steps behind him. “Am I that transparent?” she asked before she headed for the bathroom. “What is it you’re looking for anyway?” Because she was curious once she opened the cabinet and found most of the bottles of medication intact. The first aid kit under the sink was still mostly stocked too.
