Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Current music:Here I Am (Kaskade remix)--David Morales

Who: Noel and Hermione
What: Bumping into each other
When: Today, early evening
Where: Starting at Flourish & Blotts
Rating: Not high, I imagine
Status: Closed/In Progress.

It was a rare Saturday off and Noel was enjoying it to the fullest. He'd spent the morning wandering the market, getting things for dinner and the week. The afternoon was wasted--well, in the cliche sense--away at a coffee shop in SoHo writing lyrics. It was just--he felt so much lighter than he had in days. He took full advantage of it. And let's face it, sunshine was a rare commodity in London.

Now, he was wandering Flourish & Blotts, looking for something to read. He wasn't quite sure what but he was currently looking through the fiction section. So many books, most of the uninteresting. He sighed and bent to tie his shoe.

Hermione didn't exactly have the day off. In fact, she was here, at Flourish and Blotts, because of her job. Slowly she had been moving up and down the different aisles. Yes, she knew what she needed, but that didn't stop her from wanting to have a look inside. They might have gotten some news books! Yet, quills were high on her list. It seemed she was running a bit low. The way Hermione chewed on the ends of her quills it wasn't surprising that she had so few left. A troubling prospect.

In this place she lost herself. She became focused on the landscape before her, hardly seeing what was around her. A finger gently trailed across the spines of several different books. There was hardly anyone who found the joy in old books quite like Hermione. There was so much knowledge in them. Some things left untouched for years. Hermione loved being able to discover these old books and analyze them.

If Hermione wasn't careful she'd lose track of time and be late returning to her work. At least the work schedule she made for herself! She had already given herself a big enough break as it was. Although, she didn't classify this as a break. Hermione was in need of quills!

Without any thought to the world around her Hermione moved on, clearly unaware of the anger that lie ahead! At any moment Hermione could go pitching forward over a certain young man. And that would be truly embarassing.

Oh! Now there was certainly something that looked interesting. Magical Music: 1700 to Present. He got down on his knees and peered at the book, assessing whether it could potentially be dangerous. No! Didn't look like it. He reached for the book.

Well. This was probably just not going to be Hermione's day. Eyes focused onto the shelf that was just above her eye level. Walking on her tiptoes down the aisles she would become aware of the still crouching Noel just a moment too late. Letting out a loud shriek she tried to desperately catch her balance. Sadly, she did not succeed in doing so.

"Oh for Merlin's sake!" She whispered loudly to no one in particular. How horrifying was this!? A hand went out to gently rub her back.

Noel definitely wasn't expecting someone to go pitching over him. He bit back a laugh as he looked over at the girl. "Um. Are you okay?" He tried not to grin, but he was definitely amused.

Hermione wrinkled her nose. Well! At least this was funny to someone. Quickly she shoved her body up off of the floor, brushing the dirt off of the pencil skirt she wore.

"I"m fine, thank you," she said as she glanced behind her, still trying to straighten herself out. "What about you? Did I hurt you in anyway?" Had she even noticed who she was talking to?

Noel actually did laugh now. "I'm fine. You're the one who took the tumble." He pulled the book off the shelf and stood up. "Are you sure you're okay?"

A sharp nod. Her attention finally pulled directly to the figure in front of her. "It's fine, really. I ought to pay closer attention to what I'm doing in here. I was a little wrapped up," she admitted freely.

"Being caught up in your thoughts can be dangerous," he nodded. He knew that much, he was often in these situations for not paying attention to what he was doing. "But at least you didn't break anything. I'm Noel, by the way." He offered his hand. Why not? She was pretty, he was free.

"Merlin! I don't have time to break anything." It would put her behind in her work and that just wasn't acceptable! No no!

Her hand shot out, grasping his firmly. "Hermione. Hermione Granger," she said firmly. "It's a pleasure to meet you." It wasn't so much a pleasure to trip over him, but that was really beside the point.

Dropping her hand from his she raised a brow, looking him over. A hint of recognition sparking in her eyes.

"Oh, yes. I remember that. You're the one who believes Hogwarts doesn't give students a proper education." Hermione smiled then. "And you're also starting music school. If I am remembering correctly."

Hermione simply shook her head. She could hardly stand the thought that someone didn't like Hogwarts. In fact, it made her want to convince him that Hogwarts wasn't so awful as he liked to think!

"I stick by my belief that Hogwarts is truly one of the best educational facilities that anyone can attend." She smiled a bit. Her hands were fluttering about her white button down, smoothing it down.

"And what, pray tell, might your musical abilities entail?"

"Everyone's entitled to their opinion. It doesn't make it true though," he countered, fingers tapping absently on the book.

"I play the piano, guitar, drums, harmonica, tambourine, I sing and I also write lyrics and compose," he smiled. "Aren't you supposed to be at work? What do you do?"

At first Hermione stood, just watching him. A quiet study of the young man. She wasn't judging, just wondering.

Of course it made it true! Everything Hermione said was true! At least she thought that. And she probably was the only one. But that was hardly the point.

"You're quite talented it seems," She said finally with a smile. It was a pretty impressive list of muscial talents. "I'm not sure I have ever been in the presence of someone that musically inclined." Another smile was flashed in his direction.

Work! Oh, right. She was here for that, wasn't she? "I should be at work. In fact, I came here because of work. I'm in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures at the Ministry." Hermione was terribly proud of her job.

"And what do you have there," she asked, nodding her head towards the book in his hands.

The stare made him a bit uncomfortable and he shifted his weight, one foot to the other. He smiled a little at the half compliment. "Oh, it's Magical Music: 1700 to Present."

Hermione had a bit of a habit of being intimidating without really trying. It was just part of her personality.

"I don't believe I've actually read that. Lately my reading material has been work focused. I'm not complaining, though."

It was odd for Hermione to be standing here this long, having a conversation with someone she hardly knew. But there was a first time for everything.

"Anything else in particular you came in here for?"

"A day off, hm?" Her head lolled to the side. "I don't think I've had a day off since I started this job." She smiled a bit and held up her hands. "Not that I am complaining. I like working. But lately people have been pushing for me to take a bit of time off."

She shrugged. Hermione was clearly not too keen on the idea at the moment.

"Only take time off if you want to," Noel nodded with a smile. "I was just about to go back out into Muggle London for some coffee." He didn't actually asked, but it was said in such a way that if she wanted, he was open to company.

"Coffee does sound nice. Maybe a cup of tea perhaps." She eyed him carefully. "You wouldn't mind if I joined you, would you?"

Hermione was enjoying the bit of social interaction she was engaging in. It was quite rare, really!

"That sounds just lovely," she said with a broad smile. Hermione had started to walk behind him until she suddenly remembered why she had come in here in the first place!

"Oh! Quills! I'll be right back!" Quickly she rushed off to pick up the quills that she had intended on getting. It took her a moment, wanting to choose the most perfect ones that she could find. Tapping her foot lightly against the floor she finally picked up three, returning to the counter to pay for them.

"Almost forgot," she said to him with a sigh. Where was her head!? After paying for her own things she turned and raised a brow. "Ready?"

"And where might we be headed?"

"Well, once we get out of the Leaky Cauldron, there's a shop called Milk & Bean a few blocks down," Noel replied brightly. He was pretty happy to have company. It helped him get out of his head for a while. His mum always said he spent too much time alone and he was beginning to agree.

"I'm not sure that I've ever heard of that place before." She clutched her bag of quills in her hands, glancing off to the side at him. "I can't exactly say that I've ventured out lately, though. Is it new?" Some part of her wished that it was a new establishment simply because it meant that Hermione truly hadn't miss too much.

"You're not like other Slytherins, you know?" Hermione wasn't the type of girl that liked to judge others. But it was obvious that certain houses entertained certain values and ideas. Most, if not all, Slytherins would have never even acknowledged her. And if they had done that it would have only been to attack her in some manner. She tried her best to not be judgemental.

"It's different," she said simply.

"It's been around eight months or so," Noel replied with a smile. "I like it. It's kind of homey, kind of earthy."

He gave a little laugh at the comment about Slytherins. "Well, I don't see any reason to be asshole-y with you. I mean, I've certainly got nothing against you. My mum is a muggle, you know. So I'm a halfy annnd most people in my house didn't like me because of it." He shrugged. It didn't bother him one bit. They were all annoying. "I'm glad I'm not like them."

Hermione shrugged a bit. "Most people have something against me for more than one reason. Harry being one. Although, being muggleborn does the trick more often than not." It probably didn't help that she tended to be a bossy know-it-all, too. But Hermione liked who she was and so did several other people.

"I absolutely hate it when people make judgements based on something as silly as blood status. What does that prove about a person?" She huffed, gripping her back tighter. "It's such a silly and ridiculous notion." Hermione could have gone on and on about how much she couldn't stand being placed into a catagory just because she was muggleborn.

"I'm glad you're not like them either." She smiled brightly at him.

"Well, you don't strike me as the type to need instant dislike for," Noel nodded. He tended to get vibes off of people and she just seemed friendly, if over-worked.

"I happen to agree," he smiled as they made their way through the Leaky Cauldron. It was loud and he couldn't wait to get out of there. Thankfully it was just a brief stop-over. "I think magical ability is like being able to roll your tongue. Some people can, some people can't. It's just how it is."

"I try to remember that everyone deserves a chance. I may not have been given that chance, but I intend to make sure others do." She nodded firmly. Just because she's been labeled before she set foot into school didn't mean she was going to cut off other people. Unless they were catty girls.

Following closely behind she turned her body appropriately as to not bump into any of the Leaky patrons. Not to mention she didn't want to lose him seeing as how she had no idea where she was going. "I can only hope that things will change. I know it won't be over night, but I do know that I'm going to work very hard to make sure it does change." When Hermione put her mind to something she was seemingly unstoppable.

"I think change is always happening. For the better or worse still remains to be seen but I'm hopeful," Noel nodded, holding the door open for her. He was glad to get out of the building. "That place is always too crowded for me. Thankfully, only regulars know about Milk & Bean. So what do you normally get? Espresso or are you a coffee girl?"

"Thank you," She said as she went through the door he held open for her. "I suppose after everything that we've been through I'm just ready for a good change." Hermione lapped into a silence as she considered just what changes Hermione wanted in her life.

But her attention was drawn back to him when he asked her a question. "I'd have to say I'm more of a coffee girl. I don't drink it too often, but sometimes it's just nice to sit and have a good cup. What about you? What sort of a guy are you?"
