Veronica had been leaving Neptune, but she didn't expect to end up in Roswell. She had a case that she was supposed to be working on. Getting out of Neptune was good for her, after the loss she'd suffered. Maybe it had been a year ago, but the guilt and the pain she felt hadn't really faded. She wasn't sure it ever would. It was nice to be distracted, to keep working. When she was alone, all she thought about was how she was a widow at 32. It wasn't fair. She should have been able to figure out what Penn's riddle had been, she should have been able to save Logan. But she hadn't been. He was gone, and he was not coming back. She was alone. And now she'd found herself in Roswell. There was no explanation for it. And here she was on the second night of some get together out in the desert. There was a chill in the air that wasn't familiar to her. Neptune could get cold, but not quite like this. And there was no real reason for any of this to be happening. So maybe this was a mystery she could help solve and it would keep her busy. She popped a cap off a beer and sat down next to a guy who looked like he was having as shitty of a day as she was. |
