Liz had gotten all dolled up for the Community Center party but once they got to the Crashdown, she changed into a comfortable sweater with jeans and heeled boots on her feet. This was a lowkey family matter, she didn't need to be dressed up for it.
When they got there, she had Max keep her dad occupied upstairs while she and Rosa made churro pancakes in the commercial kitchen. They were an important part of this whole thing so she was going to let her dad have a break with his diet and not give him the disgusting kind she'd made him last year. These churro pancakes were the real deal and they smelled amazing as they came off the griddle. Once everything was ready, she sent Max the 'all clear' text and prepared herself for the family reunion.
Needless to say, by the end of her prepared explanation, they were all crying over their churro pancakes and Aruto pulled his girls in for a hug. It went even better than she imagined and Liz left there with a smile on her face and weight left off of her shoulders because she wasn't keeping a secret from her father anymore. Well, not the Rosa secret anyway. He still didn't know that aliens were real and she planned on keeping it that way for his own safety.
Max was right, the walk in the brisk night air was rather nice and she was enjoying the quiet of the town while everyone was inside with their families. It was in that moment, there with Max and the Christmas lights of their small town, that she felt at home. She smiled as they approached the gazeebo and nodded her head when he asked about sitting.
"Are you going to quote Shakespeare to me again?" She teased, bumping him back before they sat down in the same spot they did after Prom. She was such a different girl now than she was before and she took a moment to reflect on that as she rested her head on his shoulder. "We've come a long way since that night" She commented after a few moments of silence between them.
