She figured it might be inappropriate to tell him she didn't mind waiting for him. He was practically her only friend here, and it would be meant innocently, but she was acutely aware of how it might sound.
So she didn't say it.
"I'm doing all right. I mean, not great," she didn't make a habit of lying and wasn't going to start now. "I keep trying to reach Bobby even though I know I can't. And I know it's not healthy, but I can't help it."
