Eleven didn't know what to think about the body pulled out of the lake. It wasn't Will, she knew that. But when Mike yelled at her, and accused her of lying, she didn't know what to say. Words weren't easy for her. She had to think about what she wanted to say before she said anything at all, and by then, Mike was gone. He'd taken off on his bike, leaving her with Lucas and Dustin. She knew that wasn't cool, and he shouldn't have done that because Lucas called her names and Dustin just wanted her to make things float. They didn't understand her like Mike did, and she didn't understand them either.
She looked down the road, the way Mike had gone. She couldn't see him anymore, and she felt a dull ache in her chest. She sighed, and brought her gaze back around to Lucas and Dustin, but her head felt weird, like everything was spinning and the next thing she knew, she was on the ground, looking up at the bright blue sky. She rolled over and found herself laying in dry reddish brown dirt. Disoriented and confused, she bolted up to her feet and looked around desperately. Where were Lucas and Dustin? Where was the fire engine they had been hiding behind? The lake?
Nothing looked familiar, and she had no idea where she was or what happened. "No," she whimpered, and crumbled to the ground, shaking with terror.
