prompt #12 - impossible Title: Anything Is Possible Author:andwhenwespeak Fandom:Dead Like Me Character/Pairing: Delores, George Rating: G Word Count: 240 Prompt: #12 - impossible
"This is impossible, Millie!" says Delores. "Just impossible!" And it is. She is. Millie is impossible, with her tardiness, her lack of application, her dreamy not-quite disinterest. She has so much potential, Delores thinks, the whole world out there just waiting for her, but Millie is drifting, rudderless, a lonely ship buffeted by the storms of life. And she, Delores, stands solid, a beacon in the tempest, a lighthouse willing and able guide Millie to a sunny, cheerful harbour, somewhere far from the rain.
But Millie doesn't seem to want sunny, doesn't seem to want cheerful. She floats along, scowling, apparently indifferent to the trials and tribulations of life at Happy Time, like she has something bigger, more important on her mind. Like she knows a terrible, wonderful secret.
And sometimes that intrigues Delores, piques her cat-like curiosity, but mostly it just makes her feel wistful and a little sad. She, Delores, has no secrets, she contains no mysteries. She was never young and enigmatic, beautiful and quirky, she's always been practical, dependable Delores, the back-up you could count on, never the girl longed for, yearned for.
Sometimes she wishes her life were different, but she knows it's far too late for that.
But she can watch Millie, see her blossom, keep her secrets, and that makes things a little better, eases the ache inside her. Anything is possible, and, for now, that's enough to keep her going. It's enough.
